4 SPRING SUN Y T Cheng C S Shum 4 124 71 -- --

Steward Report Predict Pace Map
Prior to leaving the saddling stalls, SPRING SUN was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said the horse was lame in its left front leg and in his opinion was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of SPRING SUN. Before being allowed to race again, SPRING SUN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. NOBLE SILENCE was slow to begin. From wide barriers, DUMBARTON ROCK and WARM EMBRACES were taken back in the early stages. Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, MASTER GUNNER, which was travelling wide on the track, was steadied and taken back to a position with cover. In the early part of the Straight, NOBLE SILENCE had some difficulty obtaining clear running. After the 200 Metres, DUMBARTON ROCK was steadied when crowded for room between MASTER GUNNER and SOLAR POWER (K T Yeung) which shifted out while being ridden along. K T Yeung was severely reprimanded and told to exercise greater care. At the 100 Metres, SOLAR POWER was bumped by MASTER GUNNER which shifted in. B Prebble (ROCKET POWER) said it was explained to him prior to the race that the horse is a one-paced type. He said the intention was to ride ROCKET POWER in a forward position, allow it to maintain its stride and remain balanced. He said in accordance with those instructions he rode ROCKET POWER along in the early stages, however, the horse did not show natural speed and shortly after the start became unbalanced when being crowded for room. He said ROCKET POWER continued to race in restricted room making the first turn. He said ROCKET POWER travelled wide and after the 1200 Metres was left racing without cover. He said ROCKET POWER did not feel comfortable in its action, then approaching the turn at the 600 Metres he elected to allow ROCKET POWER to travel forward in an endeavour to have the horse cross and race outside the lead. He said as he did this SUPER CHARGE maintained its position towards the inside of ROCKET POWER. He said as a consequence of the tough run ROCKET POWER had had it commenced to give ground shortly after the 600 Metres. ROCKET POWER was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of ROCKET POWER after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of ROCKET POWER, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, ROCKET POWER will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned regarding the poor performance of KOWLOON FIT, K L Chui said he was required to ride his mount along for a considerable distance after the start to obtain a position slightly forward of midfield. He said it had initially been intended to ride KOWLOON FIT behind the lead, however, because the horse raced in restricted room in the early stages, he was not able to obtain this position. He said from the 1200 Metres until straightening KOWLOON FIT travelled comfortably, however, when placed under pressure did not respond to his riding. He said he was not able to offer any explanation for the poor performance of the horse. KOWLOON FIT was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of KOWLOON FIT after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of KOWLOON FIT was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, KOWLOON FIT will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. MASTER GUNNER, LUMINOUS and WARM EMBRACES were sent for sampling. The Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the reason for SOLAR POWER being checked near the 1300 Metres until a date and time to be fixed.
