As the start was effected, FEVER PITCH sat back and as a consequence lost a considerable amount of ground. GLENEALY ELITE was slow to begin. From outside barriers, CHINA LUJIA and MANY GAINS were taken back in the early stages. After being ridden along in the early stages, after the 1200 Metres NAMJONG FIGHTERS got its head up when proving difficult to settle. At the 1100 Metres, CHINA LUJIA was steadied away from the heels of FLORAL PICASSO which was steadied away from the heels of NAMJONG FIGHTERS. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, GLENEALY ELITE was steadied away from the heels of NAMJONG FIGHTERS and FLORAL PICASSO was steadied when awkwardly placed between GLENEALY ELITE and BIG PROFIT. After the 800 Metres, SUPER CHARGE was steadied away from the heels of FLORAL PICASSO which in turn was steadied away from the heels of BIG PROFIT which shifted in slightly. No action was taken. Near the 500 Metres, GLENEALY ELITE was again steadied away from the heels of NAMJONG FIGHTERS. In the early part of the Straight, SUPER CHARGE (Apprentice M L Yeung) was held up and unable to obtain clear running between MANY GAINS and FEVER PITCH. Apprentice Yeung was told to ensure there is sufficient room before endeavouring to improve into runs. From the 300 Metres until the 150 Metres, MOMENTOUS was unable to obtain clear running. At the 300 Metres, CHINA LUJIA was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of MOMENTOUS to obtain clear running. For the major part of the race, BIG PROFIT travelled wide and without cover. Throughout the race, MANY GAINS travelled wide and without cover. Apprentice M L Yeung said he had been instructed to have his mount travel where it was comfortable and this was anticipated to be in about 5th or 6th position. He said SUPER CHARGE began well, he allowed his mount to travel at its own speed in the initial stages and when a number of runners improved on his inside, he endeavoured to shift to a position with cover. He said he was able to obtain a position with cover slightly behind midfield shortly after the 1200 Metres, however, he continued to travel in a four wide position. He said approaching the turn at the 800 Metres when he realized he would be obliged to cover ground in the run, he elected to steady his mount and take it back to a position near the rear to ensure he had cover and was able to travel closer to the fence. He said in the Straight SUPER CHARGE closed the race off strongly. MOMENTOUS and FLY ME TO THE MOON were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of MOMENTOUS and FLY ME TO THE MOON after the race did not show any significant findings. MERIDIAN PRIDE and CHINA LUJIA were sent for sampling.
