ENGINEERING WONDER was slow to begin. From wide barriers, COOL CAT and ELECTRONIC MASTER were taken back in the early stages. After beginning awkwardly, MIRACLE FORTUNE was slow to muster speed despite being ridden along. Making the turn at the 1000 Metres, MIRACLE FORTUNE got its head up when racing tight inside MARVELLOUS which shifted ground while hanging. After entering the Back Straight, MARVELLOUS was steadied to obtain a position with cover. After the 800 Metres, MIRACLE FORTUNE was left racing without cover, making the turn at the 600 Metres commenced to hang out and shortly afterwards gave ground. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, RACING SPIRIT raced tight inside COOL CAT which got its head on the side and hung in. Making the Home Turn, VISIONARIO and FOREST STAR raced tight. For a considerable distance approaching and passing the 200 Metres, COOL CAT, which had commenced to close the race off, was steadied when disappointed for running between VISIONARIO and FOREST STAR . When questioned regarding the poor performance of MEGABUCKS, B Doyle said his mount did not show its usual early speed. He said after making use of MEGABUCKS in the early stages, he was able to cross and race outside the lead on entering the Back Straight. He said MEGABUCKS travelled comfortably while on the bit, however, when placed under pressure rounding the Home Turn and in the Straight did not respond to his riding. He said MEGABUCKS in his opinion raced “flat”. Mr T W Leung, trainer of MEGABUCKS, advised the Stewards it is now his intention to freshen the horse up. MIRACLE FORTUNE and MEGABUCKS were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of MIRACLE FORTUNE and MEGABUCKS after the race did not show any significant findings. ASALI VICTORY, ENGINEERING WONDER and SPEED FIGHTER were sent for sampling.
