As the gates opened, ROYAL PUMPKIN sat back and as a consequence was slow to begin. SUPER SNIPPETS was slow into stride. Making the turn at the 1000 Metres, ROYAL PUMPKIN got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of CONFUCIUS CLASSIC. In the early stages, GOOD TO GO proved difficult to settle. After entering the Back Straight, BUCCANEER was steadied away from the heels of AMO, then proved difficult to settle. At the 700 Metres, MY HOME TOWN was left racing wide and without cover. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, ROYAL PUMPKIN was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of BUCCANEER. At the 250 Metres, DOUBLE LUCK (C Soumillon) was shifted in and bumped VICTORY CONQUEROR which as a result became unbalanced. C Soumillon was severely reprimanded and told in similar circumstances he would be expected to keep his mount straight. CONFUCIUS CLASSIC, DOUBLE LUCK and BUCCANEER were sent for sampling.
