While parading behind the barriers, SICHUAN HERO became fractious, dislodged O Doleuze, its rider, and galloped up the 1800 Metre chute prior to being recaptured. SICHUAN HERO was returned to the Start and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion the horse was suitable to race. After being remounted, SICHUAN HERO again became fractious and dislodged O Doleuze. These incidents resulted in a considerable delay to the start. Before being allowed to race again, SICHUAN HERO will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. HORACE’S CHOICE was slow to begin. On jumping, CARRIZO CREEK lost ground after bumping with SICHUAN HERO. Also on jumping, IMPERIAL APPLAUSE knuckled. For the major part of the race, GO JOHNNY GO raced without cover and approaching the turn at the 800 Metres was carried wider by NEVER LOOK BACK which when proving difficult to settle shifted out away from the heels of CALIFORNIA BISHOP. Making the Home Turn, IMPERIAL APPLAUSE, which had been travelling wide, was carried wider by JOY AND FUN. Also making the Home Turn, CALIFORNIA BISHOP hung out. C Soumillon (HORACE’S CHOICE) pleaded guilty to two counts of careless riding [Rule 100(1)]. The first count being that near the 300 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of GO JOHNNY GO and SICHUAN HERO, causing those horses to lose their rightful running and be checked. In relation to this matter, C Soumillon was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday 17 January 2008 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Happy Valley racemeeting on Wednesday 9 January 2008. In addition, C Soumillon was fined $40,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating one further raceday. The second count being that approaching the winning post he permitted his mount to shift out when not clear of CARRIZO CREEK, causing that horse to lose its rightful running and be checked. In relation to this matter, matter, C Soumillon was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday 17 January 2008 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Happy Valley racemeeting on Wednesday 9 January 2008. These suspensions are to be served concurrently. In addition, C Soumillon was fined a further $40,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating one further raceday. For some distance after the 300 Metres, CARRIZO CREEK had difficulty obtaining clear running. Apprentice H W Lai (GO JOHNNY GO) was reminded of his responsibility to ride his mounts out at least hands and heels to the end of the race where circumstances permit. NEVER LOOK BACK and IMPERIAL APPLAUSE were sent for sampling.
