On arrival at the Start, it was noted that CHAMPION RANGER had sustained a mild cut to the right hind fetlock. CHAMPION RANGER was examined by the Veterinary Officer and found to be suitable to race. DIAMOND KNIGHT, which was fractious in the barriers, was slow to begin. FIONN’S GLORY and SPEECHMAKER bumped at the start. Shortly after the start, BARCELONA TOO and CITY OF LIGHTS raced tight outside SOLAR SPIRIT which got its head on the side and shifted out away from KOWLOON EAST KING which itself was shifting out at this time. Near the 400 Metres, DIAMOND KNIGHT was badly checked when crowded for room between GOLDEN INSIGHT and CHINA ANGEL which shifted in after being bumped by KOWLOON EAST KING which itself was taken in by CITY OF LIGHTS which got its head on the side and hung in marginally despite the efforts of its rider. No action was taken. Approaching and passing the 100 Metres, GLORY WIN and DIAMOND KNIGHT (D Whyte) made contact on a number of occasions due to DIAMOND KNIGHT getting its head on the side and hanging out. D Whyte was advised that he must endeavour to do his utmost to prevent his mounts from shifting ground wherever possible. FIONN’S GLORY and SOLAR SPIRIT were sent for sampling.
