CIRCUIT THREE was slow to begin.
BEAUTY APPLAUSE lifted its front feet off the ground as the start was effected and then was bumped by KING OPIE which shifted out, resulting in BEAUTY APPLAUSE losing ground. BEAUTY APPLAUSE was then steadied to obtain cover in the early stages.
MONGOLIAN KING shifted out at the start and bumped the hindquarters of DAN CONTROL.
Passing the 1100 Metres, KING OPIE, which was being ridden along, was steadied away from the heels of CALIFORNIA WHIP which throughout the race travelled wide and without cover.
From a wide barrier, INVINCIBLE MISSILE was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Rounding the Home Turn, MONGOLIAN KING was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of BEAUTY APPLAUSE which shifted in away from the heels of WATER DIVINER.
BEAUTY APPLAUSE had some difficulty obtaining a run in the early part of the Straight and then was badly held up for clear running from passing the 250 Metres until passing the 150 Metres.
After the race, C Y Ho said that after travelling well in a good position behind the speed, DAN CONTROL came under heavy pressure rounding the Home Turn and then in the Straight gave ground despite being ridden out. He said he was concerned regarding the manner in which DAN CONTROL pulled up as the horse became badly unbalanced. A veterinary inspection of DAN CONTROL immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Having regard to the report tendered by Jockey Ho, the Stewards ruled that DAN CONTROL must perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.
Also after the race, K Teetan reported that CIRCUIT THREE coughed on pulling up. A veterinary inspection of CIRCUIT THREE immediately following the race found that horse to be lame in its left front and right hind legs and an endoscopic examination also showed a substantial amount of mucus in its trachea. Having regard to the veterinary report relative to CIRCUIT THREE today and also when it was withdrawn at its last intended race start, the Stewards ruled that CIRCUIT THREE must barrier trial satisfactorily and be subjected to an official veterinary examination prior to being permitted to race again.
A veterinary inspection of HAPPY FUN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of BUDDIES immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, BUDDIES will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
CIRCUIT THREE, WATER DIVINER and GOOD STANDING were sent for sampling.
