As an abnormality was detected on heart screening pre-race, GANG OF BROTHERS was withdrawn at the Start by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice. Before being allowed to race again, GANG OF BROTHERS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination which must include additional diagnostic assessments.
ATOMIC BEAUTY jumped only fairly and then was bumped by IMPERIAL MAGEE which shifted in when racing tight to the inside of SO AWESOME.
LOST CHILD jumped awkwardly and lost ground and was then obliged to race wide and without cover from the 900 Metres.
From a wide barrier, ART LITE was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
In the middle stages, ATOMIC BEAUTY raced keenly and for some distance near the 600 Metres got its head up when being steadied to avoid the heels of SO AWESOME.
Near the 500 Metres, GOLDEN SAMURAI and LOST CHILD made contact as GOLDEN SAMURAI attempted to shift to the outside of HO HO STAR.
Near the 400 Metres, LIGHT OF WANSHI was held up when endeavouring to improve into a narrow run between HO HO STAR and ONE HEART ONE. When unable to proceed into this run, LIGHT OF WANSHI was shifted to the inside of ONE HEART ONE near the 250 Metres and again had difficulty obtaining clear running when racing tight to the inside of ONE HEART ONE until near the 150 Metres.
PROUD DRAGON raced tight to the inside of LIGHT OF WANSHI approaching the 200 Metres and near the 200 Metres was steadied to avoid the heels of JAZZ CLUB when that runner commenced to give ground, resulting in PROUD DRAGON not obtaining clear running until near the 150 Metres.
Inside the 50 Metres, SO AWESOME was shifted to the outside of LOST CHILD to continue into clear running and over the concluding stages then raced tight between LOST CHILD and SMART LEADER.
Over the concluding stages, SMART LEADER raced tight to the inside of IMPERIAL MAGEE which shifted in slightly.
After the race, Z Purton (HO HO STAR) stated that his intention was to find a midfield position with cover. He said when caught wide in the early stages, he was obliged to make some use of his mount to stride forward and take up a position behind the lead to avoid racing wide. He added that as a consequence when placed under pressure in the Home Straight, HO HO STAR failed to respond to his riding. A veterinary inspection of HO HO STAR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of HO HO STAR was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, HO HO STAR will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of ART LITE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
GOLDEN SAMURAI and NATURAL GOLD were sent for sampling.
