Whilst parading behind the barriers, CABLE SPEED spooked and dislodged its rider, K Teetan, without incident. CABLE SPEED was examined by the Veterinary Officer and passed suitable to race. A Badel (BARON ZEE), who weighed in at 117 lbs, was fined the sum of $3,000 for returning to scale 2 lbs overweight. DAZZLING FELLOW jumped awkwardly and lost ground and shortly after the start shifted in and bumped JOLLY FOREVER. Shortly after the start, VINCY shifted in and bumped CLASSIC ARCHI, resulting in CLASSIC ARCHI becoming unbalanced. After travelling a short distance, JOLLY FOREVER got its head up when being steadied to obtain cover. From a wide barrier, CABLE SPEED was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Approaching the 2000 Metres, CLASSIC ARCHI shifted out when being crossed by HELENE ALLIBOR, resulting in VINCY and FORTUNE TRIPLE being taken out and JOLLY FOREVER, which had continued to over-race, being steadied away from the heels of FORTUNE TRIPLE. BARON ZEE, which was following FORTUNE TRIPLE, was steadied as a consequence. After the 1000 Metres, LOYAL AMBITION was shifted to the outside of SHINY TWO to start a forward move and in doing so bumped FORTUNE TRIPLE, taking that runner wider when it was also commencing a forward move. Near the 600 Metres, HELENE ALLIBOR endeavoured to improve into a narrow run between SINGAPORE SPIRIT and YEE CHEONG BRAVE. A short distance later, YEE CHEONG BRAVE (M F Poon), which was under heavy pressure, commenced to give ground and shift in slightly, crowding HELENE ALLIBOR. Shortly after, DAZZLING FELLOW (B Avdulla), which was improving around the field, then lay in, crowding YEE CHEONG BRAVE in onto HELENE ALLIBOR which then resulted in HELENE ALLIBOR being checked and SINGAPORE SPIRIT being severely checked and making contact with the running rail. After considering all the evidence, the Stewards advised M F Poon and B Avdulla to exercise more care in similar circumstances. The performances of SINGAPORE SPIRIT and SHINY TWO, both of which finished tailed out, were considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SINGAPORE SPIRIT and SHINY TWO will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of SINGAPORE SPIRIT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of SHINY TWO immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse’s trachea. When questioned regarding YEE CHEONG BRAVE racing in a more forward position tonight, M F Poon stated that from his inside barrier he was instructed by connections to endeavour to hold a more forward position and lead if possible as the horse is one-paced. He added in the early stages he was unable to hold the lead and after being crossed, his mount raced too keenly and refused to settle and was left without a finishing effort. Assistant Trainer S T Lee confirmed the instructions issued. After the race, H Bowman (HELENE ALLIBOR) stated that when the tempo of the event increased from the 1100 Metres, HELENE ALLIBOR became one-paced and was unable to finish the race off. A veterinary inspection of HELENE ALLIBOR immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer” which had previously been reported. The performance of HELENE ALLIBOR was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, HELENE ALLIBOR will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of BARON ZEE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. VINCY and LOYAL AMBITION were sent for sampling.
