FOREVER FOLKS was withdrawn on 14.7.23 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter WIN WIN FIGHTER. Before being allowed to race again, FOREVER FOLKS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. CIRCUIT NINE was slow to begin, shifted in, made contact with the right side of its barrier and lost ground. YEABOI shifted out at the start and bumped JOYFUL GENIUS. RIGHT AS RAIN jumped awkwardly and then from a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. From an outside barrier, LEATHER MASTER was also shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Near the 400 Metres, OSCAR GLORY was briefly crowded between HIGH CLOUD and PACKING SUCCEEDER which lay out. HIGH CLOUD raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event. When questioned regarding his riding of JOYFUL GENIUS in the Home Straight, L Ferraris stated that after following SUPER HONG KONG into the event, he improved to that runner’s inside on straightening. He said when he observed OSCAR GLORY and PACKING SUCCEEDER in advance of him, he was unable to fully ride his mount along from the 400 Metres until such time as he was able to identify a run to improve into. He added near the 300 Metres he commenced to ride JOYFUL GENIUS along, but became awkwardly placed close to the heels of YEABOI when that runner commenced to give ground and after being directed to the outside of YEABOI, JOYFUL GENIUS lay in but ran to the line reasonably well. When questioned regarding the apparent improved performance of BULLETPROOF, Trainer P F Yiu stated that the win was unexpected, however, the horse was advantaged by having its second run back down in an inferior grade, Class 4 and was assisted by a good ride in the race. A veterinary inspection of PACKING SUCCEEDER, YEABOI, OSCAR GLORY and LUCKY VICTOR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. BULLETPROOF and BILLIONAIRE SECRET were sent for sampling.
