JUMBO LEGEND (G266): Slow to begin. Near the 600 Metres brushed the running rail when positioned tight to the inside of MR VALIANT. Near the 200 Metres was directed to the outside of VALIANT ELEGANCE and FORTUNE WARRIOR to secure clear running. Over the concluding stages lay in, resulting in its rider, K H Chan, having to stop riding and straighten his mount.
FORTUNE WARRIOR (H229): Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.
SAVVY DELIGHT (E386): A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
SERGEANT PEPPER (E432): Sent for sampling post-race.
VALIANT ELEGANCE (D285): Near the 550 Metres became unbalanced when crowded by FORTUNE WARRIOR (K Teetan) which shifted in before being corrected by its rider. K Teetan was advised to exercise more care.
THE EQUALIZER (G445): Jumped only fairly and then was crowded shortly after the start between ISLAND SURPRISE which shifted out slightly and CIRCUIT SEVEN (Apprentice Y L Chung) which shifted in whilst being ridden along. Apprentice Chung was advised to exercise more care. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
KING INVINCIBLE (H199): Briefly crowded near the 550 Metres. When questioned regarding his riding in the Home Straight, Z Purton stated that after the 300 Metres he attempted to shift his mount to the outside of SERGEANT PEPPER to secure clear running. He added KING INVINCIBLE lay in at that stage and did not respond to his efforts to shift out and a short distance later MR VALIANT was able to secure a clear run to his outside. He said as a result he continued to ride KING INVINCIBLE along with a view to improving into a run between SERGEANT PEPPER and CIRCUIT SEVEN. He further stated that near the 75 Metres SERGEANT PEPPER shifted in slightly and as a consequence he could not ride his mount out to the finish of the event when disappointed for clear running. After considering the evidence, the Stewards found the tactics adopted by Jockey Purton were reasonable in the circumstances. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer” which had previously been reported. Sent for sampling post-race.
PATCH OF WATCH (H476): Throughout the early and middle stages raced wide and without cover, raced greenly and refused to settle. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
ISLAND SURPRISE (E429): No report.
CIRCUIT SEVEN (D474): Over the concluding stages was bumped on the hindquarters by KING INVINCIBLE.
MR VALIANT (G288): Near the 500 Metres was steadied away from KING INVINCIBLE. Sent for sampling post-race.
BAEBAE TSOI (E116): No report.
GALLANT VALOUR (H323): Withdrawn on 28.10.23 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (heart irregularity) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter ISLAND SURPRISE. Before being allowed to race again, GALLANT VALOUR will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
