JAZZ CLUB (G285): After the race, M Chadwick reported that with his mount stepping up to 1650 Metres it raced a little keenly in the event in an on-pace position. He stated, in his view, JAZZ CLUB was not suited by racing around the Happy Valley circuit and gave ground in the Home Straight. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. STORMTROUPER (E100): From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. MEDIC ELITE (G129): Sent for sampling post-race. BIG TWO (E310): In the early stages over-raced. COURIER MAGIC (H290): Jumped awkwardly and was bumped shortly after. In the early stages over-raced. When questioned regarding the improved performance, Trainer J Richards stated that COURIER MAGIC had a tendency to race keenly in its track work and as a result he had been reluctant to apply blinkers to the horse. He said as COURIER MAGIC had gained race experience, he elected to apply blinkers to the horse tonight and this was the reason for racing in a more competitive manner. Sent for sampling post-race. MASTER OF LUCK (G276): From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Sent for sampling post-race. REGENCY HAPPY STAR (H248): Bumped on jumping. Approaching the 450 Metres was steadied and shifted to the inside of BRILLIANT PIONEER when that runner shifted out to improve. CHARMING STEED (E494): At declaration time, A Badel was declared as the rider of both REGENCY HAPPY STAR and CHARMING STEED. It was established that A Badel had a firm commitment to ride REGENCY HAPPY STAR. As such, the Stewards permitted A Hamelin to be substituted as the rider of CHARMING STEED. For this declaration error, Trainer C Fownes was fined $2,000. In the middle stages raced keenly in the lead. BAYVIEW STAR (G411): Bumped a rail in the Parade Ring, examined by the Veterinary Officer and passed suitable to race. When questioned, C L Chau stated that BAYVIEW STAR was slow to begin and as a result settled at the tail of the field. He said in the middle stages BAYVIEW STAR commenced to make a respiratory noise and when it then shortened stride near the 600 Metres he eased his mount down from the event when not in a competitive position. Trainer W K Mo was advised that BAYVIEW STAR, which finished tailed out, will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Sent for sampling post-race. BRILLIANT PIONEER (G255): After the race, L Ferraris could offer no excuse for his mount’s failure to run on in the Home Straight. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse’s trachea. The performance of BRILLIANT PIONEER, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, BRILLIANT PIONEER will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. HANG'S CHOICE (E311): From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. MISTER ARM (D491): After the race, H T Mo stated that his mount jumped only fairly and despite being ridden along in the early stages failed to show sufficient pace to hold a more forward position and as a result settled further back than intended. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
