DREAM PURSUER (G241): After the race, H Bowman reported that his mount did not fully stretch out during the running of the event and whilst he did express some concern with its action, he added that this also may have been attributable to DREAM PURSUER not appreciating the "Yielding” track conditions. K C Leung pleaded guilty of a breach of Rule 100(2) in that he failed to ride VICTOR THE WINNER, 7th placegetter, out to the end of the race to the satisfaction of the Stewards. K C Leung was fined a sum of $40,000. When considering the appropriate penalty, the Stewards took into account the consequential effects of Jockey Leung’s actions in that he failed to ride his mount out over approximately the final 25 Metres and had prejudiced his connections’ chances in obtaining 6th prizemoney of $440,000. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. LUCKY WITH YOU (E356): No report. INVINCIBLE SAGE (H301): Sent for sampling post-race. BEAUTY CRESCENT (H334): No report. ROCKET SPADE (G170): No report. TOP GUN (J249): Sent for sampling post-race. TURIN STARSPANGLED (J209): Jumped awkwardly and made contact with the left side of its barrier. C L Chau was again dislodged when HYPER DRAGON BALL was fractious behind the starting gates. HYPER DRAGON BALL was examined by the Veterinary Officer on arrival at the Start and passed suitable to race. Jockey Chau was examined by the Chief Medical Officer after arriving at the Start and passed fit to fulfil his race riding engagement. Throughout the early stages raced ungenerously and became unbalanced on a number of occasions. HARMONY GALAXY (J266): Shifted out at the start and was bumped. In the early stages over-raced. NORTHERN BEACHES (H266): Raced wide and without cover from the 650 Metres. Bumped approaching the 400 Metres. After the 200 Metres raced tight between NORTHERN BEACHES and KA YING VICTORY as it improved into a narrow run between those two horses. ORIENTAL SMOKE (E467): Jumped only fairly and then was crowded by HARMONY GALAXY which shifted out. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. SECOND TO NONE (H319): The Stewards considered a protest/objection lodged by L Hewitson, the rider of the second placegetter, SECOND TO NONE, against TOP GUN (K Teetan) being declared the winner alleging interference over the final 150 Metres. After considering the evidence, the Stewards found that leaving the 150 Metres TOP GUN shifted in, crowding the running of SECOND TO NONE for some distance which resulted in both runners making contact approaching the 100 Metres. The Stewards also found that over the final 50 Metres SECOND TO NONE was afforded clear running during which period SECOND TO NONE failed to make any ground on TOP GUN. After considering the manner in which both horses finished the race off, the Stewards were satisfied that had the interference not occurred after the 150 Metres, TOP GUN would have still finished in advance of SECOND TO NONE, the protest/objection was overruled and weighed-in was declared on the numbers semaphored by the Judge. K Teetan was advised to exercise more care. Sent for sampling post-race. KA YING VICTORY (H287): When questioned regarding KA YING VICTORY racing in a forward position, Z Purton stated that due to the racing pattern of today which, in his opinion, had favoured on-pace horses, he was instructed from a wide barrier to go forward. He added that after commencing well, KA YING VICTORY was able to hold a position outside the lead and responded fairly to his riding in the Home Straight. When questioned regarding his riding out of KA YING VICTORY, Z Purton stated that over the concluding stages when LOST CHILD shifted out, he was concerned that runner would continue to shift out and, as a precaution, he did not ride his mount out from that point. Trainer D J Hall confirmed that the instructions were issued on the basis that he felt it would be advantageous to hold a forward position given the manner in which the track had been racing today. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Sent for sampling post-race. PRINCIPLED (J206): Slow to begin. SUNLIGHT POWER (H244): Jumped awkwardly and lost ground. Throughout the early stages over-raced and approaching the 900 Metres was steadied away from PRINCIPLED. GOLDEN SIXTY (C238): After the race, C Y Ho reported that after his mount commenced well, he elected to take up a position behind the lead. He stated that he was satisfied with this position as, in his opinion, the racing pattern of today had favoured on-pace runners. He added that when placed under pressure in the Home Straight GOLDEN SIXTY did not quicken as it has previously which he attributed to the "Yielding” track conditions. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Sent for sampling post-race. VOYAGE BUBBLE (E436): No report. BEAUTY ETERNAL (H008): When questioned, Z Purton stated that from the outside barrier he was given the option of going forward and leading in the race where it appeared there was little early speed. He said after commencing well, he allowed BEAUTY ETERNAL to stride to the front and, in his opinion, the horse was advantaged by being able to race on the rail today. Sent for sampling post-race. BEAUTY JOY (E058): No report. OBAMBURUMAI (J824): Shortly after the start was bumped. BRAVE EMPEROR (J825): When questioned regarding the performance, L Morris stated that the intention was to race in or outside the lead. He said BRAVE EMPEROR jumped awkwardly, made contact with OBAMBURUMAI and as a result lost ground. He said despite riding his mount along in the early stages, he was unable to race in his preferred position and as a result settled in a handy position where he followed GOLDEN SIXTY. He added that with his mount stepping up in grade for today’s event, BRAVE EMPEROR then was unable to finish the race off due to the fact that it had settled further back in the field than anticipated. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. CHAMPAGNE COLOR (J826): Knuckled over on jumping and lost ground. ELTON BAROWS (J827): Jumped only fairly. GALAXY PATCH (H399): No report. RED LION (H115): Sent for sampling post-race. TAJ DRAGON (H164): No report.

ROMANTIC WARRIOR (E486): Sent for sampling post-race. DUBAI HONOUR (G809): No report. HISHI IGUAZU (G807): Approaching the 1400 Metres raced tight to the inside of SWORD POINT which in turn was racing in restricted room to the inside of NIMBLE NIMBUS. PROGNOSIS (H820): Bounded on jumping, made contact with the right side of its barrier and lost ground. From the 1200 Metres commenced a forward move and was obliged to race wide and without cover thereafter. Sent for sampling post-race. STRAIGHT ARRON (G435): Approaching the 1800 Metres was eased when racing tight to the inside of HAPPY TOGETHER. Near the 1400 Metres MASSIVE SOVEREIGN made contact with STRAIGHT ARRON when STRAIGHT ARRON was racing tight to the inside of DUBAI HONOUR (T Marquand). As a result of that contact, MASSIVE SOVEREIGN shifted out and became unbalanced, resulting in STRAIGHT ARRON having to be checked when crowded between MASSIVE SOVEREIGN and DUBAI HONOUR. At the same point, MASSIVE SOVEREIGN was also inconvenienced when HAPPY TOGETHER was positioned tight to the inside of ROMANTIC WARRIOR (J McDonald). Both T Marquand and J McDonald were advised to exercise more care and ensure that runners to their inside have comfortable racing room. When questioned, C Y Ho stated that after his mount was checked near the 1400 Metres, it failed to travel at any stage after this incident and, in his opinion, this was the reason for STRAIGHT ARRON failing to run on in the Home Straight. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. SWORD POINT (G448): From the 1000 Metres raced wide and without cover when it shifted to the outside of NIMBLE NIMBUS. The performance of SWORD POINT, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SWORD POINT will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. NIMBLE NIMBUS (E249): Became fractious and kicked out in the saddling stalls, examined by the Veterinary Officer on arrival at the Start and passed suitable to race. FIVE G PATCH (G286): From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. NORTH BRIDGE (J828): Jumped awkwardly. HAPPY TOGETHER (G446): No report. MASSIVE SOVEREIGN (J208): Near the 1400 Metres made contact with STRAIGHT ARRON, became unbalanced, shifted out and lost ground. When questioned, Z Purton stated that his mount failed to handle the "Yielding” track conditions and was under pressure from the middle stages. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

ATULLIBIGEAL (G173): Jumped only fairly and from a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. FANTASTIC TREASURE (E269): A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. DROMBEG BANNER (H117): After the race, K Teetan advised that he had expected to lead the event. He said despite riding his mount along in the early stages DROMBEG BANNER failed to show sufficient pace to hold a more forward position. LUCKY ENCOUNTER (H274): Noted to have bled from both nostrils after the race. Before being allowed to race again, LUCKY ENCOUNTER will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. WONDER KIT (G455): When questioned regarding his riding in the early part of the Home Straight and the reason he shifted to the outside of TELECOM FIGHTERS, L Hewitson stated that after following TELECOM FIGHTERS, his initial decision was to improve to that runner’s inside. He said as he commenced to do so near the 400 Metres, WONDER KIT did not immediately respond to his riding and when he then was concerned that TELECOM FIGHTERS would shift in, crowding his running and halting his momentum, he then elected near the 350 Metres to shift to the outside of TELECOM FIGHTERS and LUCKY ENCOUNTER to obtain clear running. He added that when being shifted to the outside of LUCKY ENCOUNTER, his mount brushed SUPREME LUCKY before finishing the race off well. Whilst L Hewitson conceded that the run had remained open to the inside of TELECOM FIGHTERS in the Home Straight, the Stewards found the tactics adopted by Jockey Hewitson in the circumstances were reasonable having regard to the explanations he provided. Sent for sampling post-race. BLUE MARLIN (H078): No report. OUTGATE (H113): After the race, Apprentice Y L Chung reported that his mount travelled only fairly throughout the event and, in his opinion, did not appreciate today’s "Yielding” track conditions. 28/04/2024  Shatin  Race 10 Steward Report

28/04/2024  Class 3  Shatin  Turf  A  1200m   Going: YIELDING  (2.73)   Rating: 076-060

HASTEN DELIGHT (J229): After the race, H Bowman reported that his mount raced too keenly in the early stages. He added that after entering the Home Straight HASTEN DELIGHT had some difficulty obtaining clear running when positioned behind GRACIOUS EXPRESS and finished the race off in a one-paced manner. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer” which had previously been reported. JAMES TAK (J007): Approaching the 100 Metres lay out under pressure, resulting in its rider C L Chau having to correct his mount. Sent for sampling post-race. STELLAR EXPRESS (J186): Was obliged to race very wide and without cover throughout the event. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. GUSTOSISIMO (J303): Jumped only fairly and from a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. STORM RIDER (J027): From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Approaching the 100 Metres was steadied when momentarily crowded between MASSIVE ACTION and GUSTOSISIMO. After the race, Z Purton stated that his mount failed to handle the "Yielding” track conditions and blundered on a number of occasions. GRACIOUS EXPRESS (J188): Jumped awkwardly and was then hampered when bumped by TELECOM POWER which shifted out. STAR CLUB (H239): When questioned regarding his riding, B Shinn stated that he had expected to take a position towards the rear of the field as STAR CLUB had performed best when being ridden in this manner. When questioned regarding his riding making the Home Turn and as to whether there was an opportunity to improve to the outside of STORM RIDER, B Shinn stated that his instructions were to not expose his mount too early in the Home Straight as STAR CLUB has only a short sprint and if he placed his mount under pressure too soon it would not finish the race off well. He added for this reason he elected to remain racing at the rear of the field behind GUSTOSISIMO which he felt was still travelling reasonably well and would provide him with a horse to follow into the race. He said when GUSTOSISIMO did not initially respond to his rider’s urgings in the early part of the Home Straight, he became held up for clear running behind that runner until near the 300 Metres when he shifted to its inside in an attempt to secure clear running. He added that at this point TELECOM POWER was giving ground and he was then held up behind that runner before obtaining clear running after the 200 Metres. Trainer D J Hall confirmed the instructions issued and confirmed that he had specifically asked Jockey Shinn not to improve into the event too soon as the horse had not finished its races off when ridden in this manner previously. After considering this explanations, the Stewards found the tactics adopted by Jockey Shinn in the circumstances were reasonable, however, the Stewards advised that with the benefit of hindsight the better option would have been to shift to the outside of STORM RIDER making the Home Turn which would have allowed him to improve into the race in the early part of the Home Straight. FULL CREDIT (J185): Sent for sampling post-race. MASSIVE ACTION (E445): Near the 200 Metres was steadied away from PHOENIX LIGHT (A Atzeni) which shifted out to improve. A Atzeni will be reprimanded. CALIFORNIA DEEPLY (G451): No report. TELECOM POWER (J332): Shifted out at the start and was bumped. BULB EMPEROR (J241): Near the 900 Metres blundered when being steadied away from MASSIVE ACTION which shifted out slightly. Near the 700 Metres was steadied away from MASSIVE ACTION. PHOENIX LIGHT (G192): Sent for sampling post-race. COLOURFUL PRINCE (E418): No report.
