Also passing the 500 Metres, ERNEST FEELING was shifted out away from the heels of VIGOR CHAMP (R Maia) which shifted to the outside of DRAGON FORTUNE. R Maia was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in future. ERNEST FEELING then shifted out when awkwardly placed behind FAMILY FOLKS and in doing so bumped SMART WONGCHOY, causing both horses to become unbalanced. ERNEST FEELING then had difficulty obtaining clear running until passing the 200 Metres. ERNEST FEELING and SMART WONGCHOY then raced tight approaching and passing the 50 Metres. DESTINE JEWELLERY was held up for clear running passing the 400 Metres and then after continuing to have difficulty obtaining clear running was checked away from the heels of SCENIC SWEETIE passing the 200 Metres. KUNG FU TEA, which was held up for clear running passing the 300 Metres, was then shifted out away from the heels of DESTINE JEWELLERY in consequence. KUNG FU TEA was then shifted out a number of horses to obtain clear running over the concluding stages and consequently was not able to be properly tested. When questioned regarding his riding of DECISIVE TWELVE in the Straight, C Y Ho stated that he was instructed to try and obtain a trailing position or sit outside the leader if possible. He said DECISIVE TWELVE began well and when no other horse was intent on leading, he was required to lead the race outright. He said when having to lead, DECISIVE TWELVE would not relax and travelled keenly in the early and middle stages. He said he did not place DECISIVE TWELVE under pressure until after the 400 Metres as he did not want to make too long a run on DECISIVE TWELVE given the manner in which it had travelled keenly up to that point. He said passing the 300 Metres he rode DECISIVE TWELVE along more vigorously and the horse quickened nicely and responded well to his riding. He said as DECISIVE TWELVE had responded well to his urgings at this stage, he continued to ride the horse along hands and heels for as long as possible. He added he was aware that a runner was making ground to his outside approaching the 100 Metres and because of this he continued to ride his mount vigorously hands and heels as he did not believe that the horse would respond any better by using the whip at this stage. He said close to the finishing line DRAGON FORTUNE was finishing off the race better than DECISIVE TWELVE and as DECISIVE TWELVE’s run was ending, he was required then to use the whip in an attempt to see whether the horse could lift over the concluding stages. He said as DRAGON FORTUNE was finishing off the race better than DECISIVE TWELVE, he was of the opinion that using the whip earlier on the horse would not have resulted in it finishing off the race any stronger than it did. A veterinary inspection of BULLISH UNICORN and ZACIAN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. DRAGON FORTUNE and DECISIVE TWELVE were sent for sampling.

Passing the 900 Metres, CALIFORNIA LEGEND was left racing wide and without cover. In this incident, SO WE JOY and ULTIMATE GLORY bumped. SO WE JOY then had difficulty obtaining clear running until after the 300 Metres. In the early part of the Straight, GOLDEN LINK got its head on the side and lay in. TAKINGUFURTHER had some difficulty obtaining clear running passing the 250 Metres. When questioned, Apprentice C L Chau stated that as there appeared to be not much speed engaged in today’s race, he was asked to ride PLIKCLONE positively in the early stages to obtain a forward position. He said it was anticipated that CALIFORNIA LEGEND would be ridden along to take up a forward position and it was hoped that PLIKCLONE would be able to shift across with that horse to either race outside CALIFORNIA LEGEND or be able to take a trailing position behind the speed with cover. He said in accordance with his instructions he began well on PLIKCLONE and was travelling better than CALIFORNIA LEGEND in the early stages, which, despite being ridden along, was not showing as much early speed as was anticipated. He said because of this he allowed PLIKCLONE to improve forward of runners to its inside and obtain the lead passing the 1000 Metres. A veterinary inspection of CALIFORNIA LEGEND immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. PLIKCLONE, SO WE JOY and GOLDEN LINK were sent for sampling.

In the early part of the Straight, FALCON TURBO was shifted out a number of horses to obtain clear running. When questioned, A Hamelin stated that it was intended for DIVINE REGULUS to be ridden to clear runners to his inside and obtain a position close to the rail. He said in the early stages he allowed DIVINE REGULUS to improve its position, however, CHICKEN DANCE was being ridden along to his inside to maintain its position. He said because of this he believed that he would have had to make a lot of use of DIVINE REGULUS to be in a position to be able to clear that horse which may be difficult if the rider of that horse continued to maintain its position to the inside of DIVINE REGULUS. He said because of this DIVINE REGULUS was left racing wide and without cover approaching the 900 Metres. A Hamelin was advised that his explanation would be reported, however, he was told to ensure that, wherever circumstances permit, he must ride his mounts in such a manner so as to avoid covering unnecessary ground. A veterinary inspection of TORNADO TWIST, GENTLE BREEZE and CHICKEN DANCE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. JUNEAU PARK, CHANCHENG PRINCE and STORM WARNINGS were sent for sampling.
