CORDYCEPS ONE (E107): Jumped awkwardly. Z Purton was interviewed regarding his riding out of CORDYCEPS ONE over the final 200 Metres. He said after riding his mount along after the 200 Metres, he felt that CORDYCEPS ONE was not responding to his forehand whip use and as a result he then changed to a backhand grip inside the 100 Metres whereby he then continued to ride his mount out to the finish of the race. Whilst the Stewards accepted that near the 100 Metres he had changed the manner in which he held his whip, Z Purton was advised, wherever possible, he must ensure that he fully rides his mounts out approaching the end of the race.
CHARMANDER (G437): Jumped only fairly. BEAUTY DESTINY (H281): When questioned, Z Purton stated that as his mount had given ground at its previous race starts, he allowed BEAUTY DESTINY to lead at a genuine pace to endeavour to allow it to establish a lead over the field entering the Home Straight. He said as soon as he placed his mount under pressure near the 300 Metres, BEAUTY DESTINY failed to respond to his riding, lay in and did not finish the race off. Trainer F C Lor stated that as BEAUTY DESTINY had disappointed him at its last start, he had applied sheepskin cheek pieces and a tongue tie to the horse in an attempt to help it focus. He added he could offer no explanation for the horse’s disappointing performance and would now consider dropping BEAUTY DESTINY back in distance and may also look to ride it in a more conservative manner in the early stages at its next start. SUPERB CAPITALIST (H092): After the race, Apprentice Y L Chung stated that he was able to lead tonight’s race, but his mount, which was racing first up for 91 days, did not finish the race off strongly and would derive benefit from tonight’s performance.
