After being loaded into the barriers, SMILING FACE reared and momentarily got its left front leg in the adjoining stall. SMILING FACE was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said the horse was suitable to race. Before being allowed to race again, SMILING FACE will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. LIKE THAT was slow to begin. SUNNY STAR began very awkwardly and then lost ground when crowded for room between SEA MONARCH and NOBLE SOUL which shifted in abruptly. In this incident, SEA MONARCH and NOBLE SOUL bumped heavily, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced. SUNNY STAR was held up for clear running after the 300 Metres and then raced in restricted room near the 250 Metres when improving into tight running between SMILING FACE and SEA MONARCH. Passing the 150 Metres, LIKE THAT raced tight outside SEA MONARCH which got its head on the side and shifted out away from SUNNY STAR. Then near the 50 Metres, LIKE THAT was steadied when crowded for room outside SEA MONARCH (K Teetan) which, when being ridden out, continued to lay out. K Teetan was reprimanded and advised that in similar circumstances he would be expected to stop riding and straighten his mount so as to prevent causing interference. A veterinary inspection of NOBLE SOUL immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. SUNNY STAR and SMILING FACE were sent for sampling.

SPEEDY MISSILE, Standby Declared Starter, was withdrawn on 11.4.20 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore). Before being allowed to race again, SPEEDY MISSILE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. TIGERLAD shifted out abruptly at the start and bumped PRAWN YEAH YEAH which was hampered. WHISTLE UP was slow to begin and then was crowded for room between BELLA BABY and HARBOUR ALERT, both of which shifted ground. Passing the 700 Metres, BELLA BABY, which was racing keenly, got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of FAIRY FLOSS. DEMONS ROCK was held up for clear running passing the 400 Metres and near the 300 Metres raced very tight with WHISTLE UP as both horses attempted to improve into running between ROMAN ODYSSEY and JIMSON THE DRAGON. WHISTLE UP and DEMONS ROCK continued to race tight outside ROMAN ODYSSEY near the 250 Metres as that horse itself raced tight outside U W BROTHER. DEMONS ROCK was then able to obtain a run near the 200 Metres whilst WHISTLE UP remained held up for clear running until passing the 100 Metres. TREASURE CHEST was shifted in across the heels of HARBOUR ALERT passing the 200 Metres to obtain clear running and then approaching the 50 Metres raced tight outside FAIRY FLOSS and inside HARBOUR ALBERT which shifted in. Passing the 100 Metres, ROMAN ODYSSEY was shifted in away from the heels of DEMONS ROCK which shifted in under pressure. A veterinary inspection of TREASURE CHEST, HARBOUR ALERT and FAIRY FLOSS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. JIMSON THE DRAGON, PRAWN YEAH YEAH and DEMONS ROCK were sent for sampling.

ROMANTIC JOURNEY, first Standby Declared Starter, was withdrawn on 9.4.20 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (sore left hind fetlock). CHAPARRAL STAR, second Standby Declared Starter, was withdrawn on 11.4.20 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore). Before being allowed to race again, ROMANTIC JOURNEY and CHAPARRAL STAR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. AMAZING AGILITY shifted out at the start and bumped GOLDEN KID which resulted in GOLDEN KID being hampered and AMAZING AGILITY stumbling. CHIU CHOW KID, AEROFLASH and REEVE’S MUNTJAC were slow to begin. From wide barriers, GOLDEN KID and SKY GEM were shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Despite being ridden along for some distance after the start, FORTUNE PATROL failed to muster speed. When being shifted across behind runners from the outside barrier, GOLDEN GENERAL travelled keenly in the early stages and got its head up on a number of occasions. Approaching the 100 Metres, GOLDEN KID was bumped by REEVE’S MUNTJAC which shifted to the outside of MASTER ROMAN to obtain clear running. Then close to the finishing line, REEVE’S MUNTJAC was awkwardly placed outside MASTER ROMAN. When questioned regarding the performance of AMAZING AGILITY, Z Purton stated that AMAZING AGILITY stumbled at the start and he felt that the horse may have got on itself when this happened. He said after being left racing wide and without cover near the 1400 Metres, his mount lay out and was not comfortable in its action throughout the race. He said he slapped the horse down the shoulder on a number of occasions making the turn near the 900 Metres to have it maintain its position and make the turn better. He added AMAZING AGILITY continued to lay out and came under pressure prior to the 700 Metres. He said despite riding his mount along, AMAZING AGILITY commenced to give ground passing the 600 Metres and he checked the horse on a number of occasions prior to the 500 Metres as he felt that AMAZING AGILITY may have bled. He added AMAZING AGILITY continued to give ground rounding the Home Turn and as the horse was well beaten he eased it down over the last 300 Metres. A veterinary inspection of AMAZING AGILITY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of AMAZING AGILITY was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, AMAZING AGILITY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial around a bend and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After the race, it was noted that MONEY MARSHAL had blood present at the right nostril. An endoscopic examination of MONEY MARSHAL found that horse not to have bled. MCMUNIGAL and VICTORIOUS SEEKER were sent for sampling.

12/04/2020  Class 4  Shatin  Turf  C  1200m   Going: GOOD  (2.71)   Rating: 060-040

BEST SMILE was withdrawn on raceday morning by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore). Before being allowed to race again, BEST SMILE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After being saddled, COMFORT LIFE was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said the horse was lame in its right hind leg and accordingly was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, COMFORT LIFE was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. Before being allowed to race again, COMFORT LIFE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. E GENERATION lifted its front feet off the ground as the start was effected and consequently began only fairly. SHINING ON began awkwardly and lost ground. GOOD VIEW CLARICO stumbled at the start. Shortly after the start, GOLDEN LINK momentarily raced in restricted room between CASA DE FORCA and COOLCELEB. After this, GOLDEN LINK was steadied and shifted across behind runners to obtain cover. From the outside barrier, CLASSIC POSH was also steadied in the early stages to obtain cover. Approaching the 900 Metres, CLASSIC POSH was steadied after improving into tight running between SHINING ON which improved to its inside and GOLDEN LINK which was awkwardly placed inside the heels of NOBLE DESIRE. Rounding the Home Turn, CLASSIC POSH was taken wider by GOLDEN LINK which improved to the outside of NOBLE DESIRE. NOBLE DESIRE then made the Home Turn awkwardly and shifted out, resulting in GOLDEN LINK being crowded onto CLASSIC POSH, causing GOLDEN LINK and CLASSIC POSH to bump. Then after NOBLE DESIRE was corrected and directed in, GOLDEN LINK and CLASSIC POSH again bumped, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced. Approaching the 50 Metres, GOLDEN LINK, which was racing greenly, was directed out away from the heels of COOLCELEB. For the majority of the race, CASA DE FORCA travelled wide and without cover. A veterinary inspection of NOBLE DESIRE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. GOOD VIEW CLARICO and CASA DE FORCA were sent for sampling.

12/04/2020  Class 4  Shatin  Turf  C  1400m   Going: GOOD  (2.71)   Rating: 060-040

READY CONQUEROR began awkwardly. LEADING FORTUNE and CIRCUIT HASSLER bumped at the start. CIRCUIT HASSLER then shifted in, resulting in REGENCY MASTER being crowded for room outside STUNNING IMPACT. After this, REGENCY MASTER and LEADING FORTUNE were steadied to obtain cover. Then despite being ridden along for a considerable distance, CIRCUIT HASSLER failed to muster speed. Rounding the Home Turn, SPICY GRILL was held up behind SMILING SUCCESS and HINYUEN SWIFTNESS. Then at the entrance to the Straight, SPICY GRILL was shifted in away from the heels of HINYUEN SWIFTNESS and SMILING SUCCESS. When held up behind HINYUEN SWIFTNESS, SPICY GRILL shifted out marginally, resulting in STUNNING IMPACT being steadied when crowded for room inside CIRCUIT HASSLER which was hampered when racing tight inside LEADING FORTUNE. SPICY GRILL was held up for clear running approaching the 200 Metres and passing the 200 Metres was shifted out away from the heels of MOON PEAKS to continue improving. Throughout the race, MOON PEAKS travelled wide and without cover. The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in as they were of the prima facie view that incidents had occurred in the Straight which cast sufficient doubt on whether LEADING FORTUNE should be declared the winner of the race. Subsequently Z Purton, the rider of PARTY GENIUS, second placegetter, and D Whyte, trainer of the horse, formally lodged a protest/objection against LEADING FORTUNE alleging interference in the Home Straight. After taking evidence from all parties concerned and after viewing the official videos, the Stewards found that after receiving contact from PARTY GENIUS passing the 400 Metres when that horse was taken out by HINYUEN SWIFTNESS, LEADING FORTUNE commenced to lay in under pressure near the 350 Metres and shifted in a number of horses, resulting in LEADING FORTUNE making contact with PARTY GENIUS which was inconvenienced when taken in until just after the 200 Metres. It was further established that after the 200 Metres both horses straightened and there was no further contact until near the 75 Metres at which stage PARTY GENIUS and LEADING FORTUNE brushed primarily as a result of LEADING FORTUNE shifting in slightly. PARTY GENIUS consequently drifted out under pressure over the concluding stages, resulting in both horses continuing to race tight. In all the circumstances, the Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that had the contact between the two horses in the early part of the Straight and again near the 75 Metres not occurred, PARTY GENIUS would have finished in front of LEADING FORTUNE and therefore the protest/objection was overruled with weighed-in being declared on the numbers semaphored by the Judge. In relation to the inward movement from LEADING FORTUNE in the early part of the Straight, J Moreira was advised to exercise more care. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SMILING SUCCESS, Apprentice C Wong stated that at its last start the horse was able to obtain the lead from a wide barrier and consequently finished off the race strongly. He said in today’s race he rode SMILING SUCCESS hard for a considerable distance in the early stages to again take up a forward position, however, SMILING SUCCESS did not show as much early speed as he hoped and was not able to lead. He said when racing behind runners SMILING SUCCESS did not travel as comfortably as it did last start and after being placed under pressure prior to the Home Turn did not finish off the race. He said, in his opinion, the performance of SMILING SUCCESS could be attributed to the fact that the horse was up in grade and was not able to lead the race which was run at a faster tempo than its last start. A veterinary inspection of SMILING SUCCESS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of LORIZ immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. LEADING FORTUNE and PARTY GENIUS were sent for sampling. <14/4/2020 Additional Veterinary Report>The Veterinary Officer reported that HAPPY FORCE was lame in its right front leg on the morning after racing. Before being allowed to race again, HAPPY FORCE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

12/04/2020  Shatin  Race 6 Steward Report

12/04/2020  Class 4  Shatin  Turf  C  1200m   Going: GOOD  (2.71)   Rating: 060-040

SPEEDY DRAGON was slow to begin. UNIVERSAL CROWN shifted out at the start and bumped SKYEY SUPREME. From wide barriers, XIANG LAN QI and PRESIDENT’S CHOICE were shifted across behind runners in the early stages. HAPPILY FRIENDS made the turn near the 900 Metres awkwardly, got its head on the side and lay out towards the heels of COLONEL, resulting in UNIVERSAL CROWN being bumped and racing tight inside SKYEY SUPREME. BREEZE OF SPRING lay out rounding the Home Turn and in the Straight. Approaching the 100 Metres, SKYEY SUPREME was awkwardly placed outside the heels of COLONEL which shifted out away from HARD PROMISE. Then passing the 100 Metres, SKYEY SUPREME was awkwardly placed close to the heels of COLONEL. Throughout the race, VICTORY FOR ALL travelled wide and without cover. When questioned regarding his riding of CHEVALIER PRINCE, M Chadwick stated that he was asked to have the horse, which was having its first race start today, in a position where it was comfortable and then finish off the race as best as it was able. He said in the early stages he steadied his mount to obtain cover behind SKYEY SUPREME which was being ridden along to his inside. He said as he was steadying to shift in behind SKYEY SUPREME, he then hoped to shift in further to follow UNIVERSAL CROWN, however, PRESIDENT’S CHOICE was able to improve its position inside CHEVALIER PRINCE and for this reason CHEVALIER PRINCE was then left racing three wide. He said he rode his mount along approaching and passing the 900 Metres to maintain its position outside PRESIDENT’S CHOICE and inside BREEZE OF SPRING, however, when BREEZE OF SPRING shifted in marginally passing the 750 Metres, CHEVALIER PRINCE was reluctant to maintain its position, got its head on the side and shifted out towards the heels of BREEZE OF SPRING. He said after this CHEVALIER PRINCE continued to race with its head on the side and lay out after the 600 Metres and making the turn which allowed PRESIDENT’S CHOICE the opportunity to improve inside CHEVALIER PRINCE. He said he rode his mount along rounding the Home Turn to maintain its position, however, CHEVALIER PRINCE was racing greenly and laying out and it took him some time to balance up the horse in the early part of the Straight. He added he slapped the horse down the shoulder on a number of occasions at the entrance to the Straight and near the 350 Metres CHEVALIER PRINCE again got its head on the side and lay out. He said he again balanced up the horse whilst continuing to ride it along and CHEVALIER PRINCE did not quicken in the early part of the Straight and was only one-paced. He said after the 200 Metres CHEVALIER PRINCE commenced to finish off the race better and near the 150 Metres he considered pursuing a run to the inside of BREEZE OF SPRING as that horse was shifting out under pressure. He said as he directed CHEVALIER PRINCE in approaching the 100 Metres with a view to taking this run, BREEZE OF SPRING was straightened by its rider and SKYEY SUPREME to the inside of that horse shifted out and therefore he directed CHEVALIER PRINCE to the outside of BREEZE OF SPRING. He added after being shifted out, he placed CHEVALIER PRINCE under full pressure and the horse then closed off the race strongly. M Chadwick was advised that whilst the Stewards accepted that CHEVALIER PRINCE had raced greenly in the middle stages and in the early part of the Straight, they were of the opinion that he had the opportunity to place CHEVALIER PRINCE under more pressure than he did after balancing up that horse in the early part of the Straight. He was told that his riding of CHEVALIER PRINCE in the early part of the Straight had come under notice and in future he must ride his mounts, irrespective of their race experience, in such a manner to ensure they are properly tested so that his riding is not open to query. A veterinary inspection of CHEVALIER PRINCE immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in the horse’s trachea. A veterinary inspection of COLONEL immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. COLONEL, PRESIDENT’S CHOICE and HARD PROMISE were sent for sampling.

AFRICAN SKY began only fairly and then was crowded for room between HARRIET JET and FORZA ANGEL which shifted out. GREEN ENVY began only fairly. DREAM WARRIORS began only fairly and then despite being vigorously ridden in the early stages failed to muster speed. MERIDIAN TALENT shifted out at the start and bumped WINSTON’S LAD. Near the 1100 Metres, DIAMOND KING raced tight inside JADE PHOENIX. DIAMOND KING was then eased away from the heels of JADE PHOENIX passing the 1100 Metres as that horse was awkwardly placed inside GALACTIC. Near the 750 Metres, JADE PHOENIX and FORZA ANGEL raced tight as FORZA ANGEL shifted to the outside of GALACTIC. Near the 550 Metres, GREEN ENVY was checked away from the heels of DIAMOND KING when bumped by AFTER ME which shifted out marginally when awkwardly placed close to the heels of FORZA ANGEL. After the 500 Metres, GREEN ENVY was then shifted in away from the heels of DIAMOND KING. Apprentice C Wong (FORZA ANGEL) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 250 Metres he permitted his mount to shift out when riding that horse along which resulted in FORZA ANGEL shifting out across the rightful running of DIAMOND KING which was hampered when unnecessarily crowded for room. Apprentice Wong was suspended from riding in races for the racemeeting to be conducted at Sha Tin on Sunday, 26 April 2020. As such, Apprentice Wong is eligible to resume race riding on Wednesday, 29 April 2020. In addition, Apprentice Wong was fined $10,000. In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into consideration that Apprentice Wong had spent a considerable amount of time away from race riding due to injury. BEST FOR YOU had difficulty obtaining clear running passing the 200 Metres. When BEST FOR YOU shifted to the outside of GALACTIC near the 150 Metres, JADE PHOENIX raced in restricted room between BEST FOR YOU and GOLDEN FOUR. Throughout the race, WINSTON’S LAD travelled wide and without cover. A veterinary inspection of ROMAN IMPERO immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious. A veterinary inspection of DIAMOND KING and JADE PHOENIX immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. JADE PHOENIX, BEST FOR YOU and GOLDEN FOUR were sent for sampling.

NABOO STAR began awkwardly. VINCY and BEAUTY HAPPY were crowded for room on jumping between CHARITY GO and GOD OF DRAGON, both of which shifted ground. After this, both VINCY and BEAUTY HAPPY were steadied and shifted across behind runners to obtain cover. CHAMPION SUPREME began only fairly. SUPER ELEGANCE had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight and passing the 200 Metres was steadied away from the heels of CHARITY GO which shifted in marginally. Passing the 200 Metres, NABOO STAR, which had been experiencing difficulty obtaining clear running, attempted to improve into a tight run which momentarily developed between ENZEMBLE and BLASTOISE. NABOO STAR was then steadied when disappointed for running as a result of BLASTOISE shifting in marginally under pressure and ENZEMBLE shifting out. NABOO STAR was directed to the outside of BLASTOISE passing the 100 Metres to improve. CHAMPION SUPREME lost its left front plate after the race. When questioned, K C Leung stated that at its last start when racing back in the field, CHARITY GO travelled keenly and would not settle when the race was not run at a good tempo. He said it was felt that in today’s race there were few speed horses engaged and therefore it was anticipated that the race would again lack tempo. He said therefore he was asked to ride CHARITY GO positively in the early stages and obtain a prominent position as it was believed that it would not be in the horse’s best interests if it were to race back in the field in a slowly run race. A veterinary inspection of GOD OF DRAGON immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. ENZEMBLE and BLASTOISE were sent for sampling.

ZERO HEDGE began only fairly, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of KURPANY which became unbalanced. OOGA CHAKA shifted in at the start and bumped TRUST ME. DAY DAY RICH began only fairly. HEART CONQUERED began awkwardly and bumped JUMBO ENGINE. After travelling a short distance, VALIANT DREAM and LE TERROIR bumped. Over the final 400 Metres, KURPANY hung in under pressure. Approaching the 200 Metres, LUCKY PUZZLE was awkwardly placed close to the heels of HELAKU KNIGHT when racing tight outside OOGA CHAKA. When questioned regarding the performance of TRUST ME, C Schofield stated that after being placed in the barriers TRUST ME was fractious and momentarily rested its right front leg on the front gates. He said after this TRUST ME stood well, jumped satisfactorily and then was able to take up a midfield position in the early and middle stages. He said he anticipated the horse would finish off the race strongly from this position as TRUST ME had appeared to race well when coming from a midfield position previously. He said however TRUST ME came under pressure after the 400 Metres and did not quicken as he expected. He said he rode TRUST ME vigorously prior to the 300 Metres, however, the horse did not finish off the race and, in his opinion, was disappointing. He added TRUST ME was backing up quickly after its last start success and was rising in grade today and he felt that the quick backup may have been the reason for the horse’s disappointing performance as TRUST ME raced "flat” today. A veterinary inspection of TRUST ME immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of TRUST ME, a winner of its two most recent starts, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, TRUST ME will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. VALIANT DREAM, BALTIC SUCCESS and FLYING GENIUS were sent for sampling. <14/4/2020 Additional Veterinary Report>The Veterinary Surgeon reported that VALIANT DREAM was lame in its left hind leg with a minor wound to the left hind pastern on the morning after racing. Before being allowed to race again, VALIANT DREAM will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

KASI FARASI and NAMJONG SINGS bumped at the start. KASI FARASI and NAMJONG SINGS were then steadied when crowded for room a short distance after the start by PRIVATE ROCKET (A Hamelin) which shifted in. A Hamelin was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. This resulted in KASI FARASI and NAMJONG SINGS losing ground and both horses then being shifted across behind runners to obtain cover. STANLEY PARK and PICKEN bumped at the start. GIFT OF LIFELINE shifted out on jumping, resulting in FANTASTIC SHOW being crowded for room inside HELLO BEAUTY. Passing the 1250 Metres, GIFT OF LIFELINE was bumped by FANTASTIC SHOW which was taken in by NAMJONG SINGS which got its head up when racing keenly and shifted in marginally. INVINCIBLE MISSILE began awkwardly and lost ground. ALL IN MIND shifted out at the start and bumped SUPER STAR. From wide barriers, SUPER STAR, LOBO’S LEGEND and JOYFUL UNION were all shifted across behind runners in the early stages. GREEN LUCK was also steadied in the early stages to obtain cover. Approaching the 1100 Metres, GREEN LUCK was bumped by SUPER STAR which shifted in. After the 1000 Metres, GENERAL’S DELIGHT was left racing wide and without cover.
