FEARLESS FIRE stumbled at the start, shifted in and bumped STAY CHILL which became unbalanced after being crowded for room between FEARLESS FIRE and HEROIC CHAMPION which shifted out. STAY CHILL then shifted in and bumped HEROIC CHAMPION. BULLETPROOF began awkwardly. From wide barriers, MING WARRIOR, SEAWEED FORTUNE and ZONE D were all steadied in the early stages to obtain cover. ALL JOYFUL was also steadied shortly after the start and shifted across behind runners. Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, MING WARRIOR got its head up when awkwardly placed outside ALL JOYFUL when being steadied to obtain cover behind that horse. FEARLESS FIRE lost its right hind plate after passing the winning post on the first occasion. HAPPY LAND travelled wide and without cover in the early stages and passing the 1000 Metres was allowed to improve its position and continued to race wide until passing the 600 Metres at which point the horse shifted in to race outside the lead. Making the turn near the 1050 Metres, BULLETPROOF was awkwardly placed inside the heels of HAPPY LAND. Making the turn after the 600 Metres, PASSING FASHION momentarily raced in restricted room inside the heels of STAY CHILL. At the entrance to the Straight, MING WARRIOR shifted out and brushed the hindquarters of EMBARKED. Near the 350 Metres, PASSING FASHION was crowded for room inside ALL JOYFUL which, after improving into tight running inside EMBARKED which was giving ground, was taken in by that horse which shifted in marginally. As the Stewards were of the opinion that there was no carelessness exhibited by any rider in this incident, no further action was taken. Over the latter stages, FEARLESS FIRE lay out under pressure. A veterinary inspection of EMBARKED and ALL JOYFUL immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. FEARLESS FIRE and ZONE D were sent for sampling.

08/12/2021  Class 5  Happy Valley  Turf  B  1200m   Going: GOOD  (2.71)   Rating: 040-022

ONE STEP AHEAD began only fairly and then was crowded for room between SUNNY AND GOLD and SUNNY SMILE which shifted in. SURE WINNER shifted out at the start and bumped ISLAND SUNSHINE. From a wide barrier, TOUCH FAITH was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Approaching the 1100 Metres, SUNNY AND GOLD was awkwardly placed outside the heels of VIVA MAMA which shifted out. After the 1100 Metres, K C Leung’s (SPARKLING STAR) left foot slipped from the stirrup iron which he was able to regather passing the 1000 Metres. After the 1000 Metres, ALLOY KING travelled keenly in the lead. Passing the 900 Metres, ISLAND SUNSHINE and SURE WINNER bumped. Passing the 700 Metres, E HONEY was left racing wide and without cover. Near the 350 Metres, MUDITA was tightened for room inside SURE WINNER which was taken in by SUNNY SMILE (A Badel) which, after shifting in marginally, was then directed out to relieve the tightening to SURE WINNER and MUDITA. A Badel was advised that whilst the shift inwards from SUNNY SMILE was momentary, nonetheless he was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances to prevent his mounts from shifting ground. Passing the 100 Metres, VECTOR was shifted out away from the heels of VIVA MAMA. The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in as they were of the view that an incident occurred after the 100 Metres which cast doubt on whether ALLOY KING (A Hamelin) should be declared the third placegetter. Although Z Purton (SUNNY AND GOLD), fourth placegetter, did not lodge a protest/objection on behalf of the connections following the race, the Stewards were of the opinion that the matter should continue to a protest/objection hearing in order for the interests of the connections and the betting public to be safeguarded. After taking evidence from all parties concerned and after viewing the videos, the Stewards found that near the 75 Metres ALLOY KING shifted out as TOUCH FAITH improved to its inside and bumped SUNNY AND GOLD. The Stewards further found that ALLOY KING then became unbalanced and shifted out further, resulting in SUNNY AND GOLD being hampered and taken out onto VIVA MAMA which shifted out away from the heels of SUNNY AND GOLD, causing VECTOR to also be hampered. Having regard to the positioning of SUNNY AND GOLD and ALLOY KING at the time that the initial contact was made between the horses and given the manner in which the horses subsequently finished off the race with a neck margin between them at the finish, the Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that had the interference not occurred, SUNNY AND GOLD would have finished in front of ALLOY KING, therefore the protest/objection was overruled and the placings confirmed as semaphored by the Judge. Z Purton explained that he did not lodge a protest/objection on behalf of the connections of SUNNY AND GOLD as he was of the opinion that given the manner in which SUNNY AND GOLD finished off the race and having regard to the margin between the horses at the end of the race, it was not likely that a protest/objection would be successful. Having regard to the fact that the Stewards ultimately did not amend the placings, no further action was taken. A Hamelin was advised to ensure that he makes every endeavour to prevent his mounts from shifting ground which resulted in contact between the horses. SUNNY AND GOLD, TOUCH FAITH and ONE STEP AHEAD were sent for sampling.

Then approaching the 250 Metres, OVERSUBSCRIBED was steadied when disappointed for running between AWESOME TREASURE and FABULOUS EIGHT which shifted in. OVERSUBSCRIBED was then shifted to the outside of FABULOUS EIGHT. As the Stewards were of the opinion that OVERSUBSCRIBED had not properly established running between AWESOME TREASURE and FABULOUS EIGHT, no further action was taken. FARIBAULT, which was following OVERSUBSCRIBED, was shifted in away from the heels of that horse in consequence. Near the 100 Metres, TRUST ME, which was closing off the race, was directed to the inside CHARMING STEED to continue improving. MERIDIAN GENIUS, which was following TRUST ME, was inconvenienced in consequence. A Badel (FABULOUS EIGHT) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 75 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of FARIBAULT, causing that horse to be checked and to lose the running to which it was rightfully entitled. A Badel was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Monday, 27 December 2021 and to expire on Thursday, 30 December 2021 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). In addition, Jockey Badel was fined $30,000. When FARIBAULT was checked, OVERSUBSCRIBED, which was racing outside FARIBAULT, was steadied when crowded for room between that horse and WILD WEST WING. Over the concluding stages, TELECOM ROCKET became unbalanced and lost ground of its own accord when racing tight inside TRUST ME which itself was racing tight inside CHARMING STEED. Then passing the winning post, TRUST ME was checked away from the heels of CIRCUIT SEVEN when unable to obtain clear running. Because of this, TRUST ME was not able to be ridden out all the way to the end of the race. Throughout the race, WILD WEST WING travelled wide and without cover. A veterinary inspection of OVERSUBSCRIBED immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. AWESOME TREASURE and FABULOUS EIGHT were sent for sampling.

After travelling a short distance, GLORIOUS LOVER was momentarily crowded for room inside WHISKEY NEAT which shifted in before being directed back out to relieve the tightening to GLORIOUS LOVER. D Lane (DR WINNING) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that passing the winning post on the first occasion he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of ZHAN JIANG ROCKS, causing that horse to be checked and to lose the running to which it was rightfully entitled. D Lane was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 15 December 2021 and to expire on Sunday, 19 December 2021 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). Near the 1300 Metres, SACRED IBIS was checked when crowded for room by DR WINNING which, after racing tight inside SMILING CITY, then got its head on the side and shifted in away from that horse. Making the turn after the 600 Metres, JOLLY HONOUR was taken wider by ZHAN JIANG ROCKS which was awkwardly placed outside the heels of SMILING CITY which made the turn awkwardly. HAPPY GOOD GUYS and REWARDING TOGETHER brushed at the start. From wide barriers, SPARTAN MISSILE, FLYING ACE, AURORA PEGASUS and SIGHT HERO were all steadied in the early stages to obtain cover. Making the turn near the 1000 Metres, SIGHT HERO was checked when crowded for room between FLYING ACE and REGENCY STAR (A Badel) which, when being steadied to obtain cover behind HIN YUEN BIS, shifted in marginally when racing outside the heels of that horse. Whilst the Stewards were not satisfied to the requisite degree that REGENCY STAR had shifted to the inside of HIN YUEN BIS and that REGENCY STAR was still racing to the outside of the heels of HIN YUEN BIS, nonetheless they were of the opinion that REGENCY STAR had shifted in marginally which resulted in the crowding to SIGHT HERO. He said CORDYCEPS ONE came under heavy pressure prior to the 500 Metres and, despite being vigorously ridden along, did not quicken as anticipated rounding the Home Turn. He added after initially staying on one-paced in the early part of the Straight, CORDYCEPS ONE then weakened over the concluding stages. He said over the latter stages of the race CORDYCEPS ONE’s action deteriorated. He added when not finishing off the race as anticipated, CORDYCEPS ONE did not feel comfortable in its action on pulling up after the race. Rounding the Home Turn, ROMANTIC COMBO raced tight outside AMAZING ONE PLUS which shifted out to obtain clear running. Approaching the 200 Metres, RED MAJESTY became unbalanced when bumped by MERCURIAL (L Hewitson) which shifted in under pressure. L Hewitson was reprimanded and told that he would be expected to exercise far more care than he did on this occasion. When questioned, A Badel stated that whilst he was not tied down to any specific instructions on NOTHING NEW tonight, he was asked to be mindful that the horse had proved difficult to settle after being ridden to obtain the lead at its most recent start. He said NOTHING NEW began only fairly and then was crowded for room between ROMANTIC COMBO and GOLDEN LINK which shifted out. He said because of this and because GOLDEN LINK was showing more early speed than NOTHING NEW, he elected to shift NOTHING NEW across behind runners and obtain a position with cover behind AMAZING ONE PLUS. He said passing the winning post on the first occasion NOTHING NEW again commenced to travel keenly and therefore he remained racing outside the heels of AMAZING ONE PLUS and allowed ROMANTIC COMBO to improve forward of NOTHING NEW with a view to obtaining cover behind that horse. He said after being crossed by ROMANTIC COMBO after the 1300 Metres, NOTHING NEW commenced to prove difficult to settle and was awkwardly placed close to the heels of that horse. He added when the pace slackened after the 1200 Metres and due to the manner in which NOTHING NEW was racing at this time, he was obliged to allow NOTHING NEW to improve to the outside of ROMANTIC COMBO and commenced to improve his position after the 1100 Metres. He said he continued to allow NOTHING NEW to improve its position and was able to shift in to race outside the lead near the 600 Metres. After the race, D Lane reported that it was felt that he may have to make too much use of GALLANT CROWN to cross runners to his inside from the outside barrier and therefore he was asked to obtain a position in midfield or behind midfield with cover if possible. He said after GALLANT CROWN began awkwardly, he then shifted the horse across behind runners, however, to obtain cover, he was required to position GALLANT CROWN at the rear of the field,. A veterinary inspection of PRESENCE and ROMANTIC COMBO immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. MEANINGFUL STAR, INVINCIBLE MISSILE and AMAZING ONE PLUS were sent for sampling.
