As the start was effected, TRAVEL GUIDE, which had been fractious in the barriers and was leaning on the inside of its barrier, began awkwardly and lost ground. Shortly after the start, HOT SHOT knuckled over. In the early stages, KYARA proved difficult to settle and passing the 1400 Metres was checked away from the heels of HORACE’S LEGEND. After this, KYARA continued to prove difficult to settle and for some distance got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of HORACE’S LEGEND. Passing the 1200 Metres, JACOBEE got its head up when being checked away from the heels of ATHENIUM which itself was awkwardly placed close to the heels of HOT SHOT. Approaching the 1000 Metres, TIME LEGEND was momentarily crowded for room between HORACE’S LEGEND and JACOBEE. Rounding the Home Turn, FULL SPIRIT became unbalanced when momentarily crowded for room between KYARA and HORACE’S LEGEND which shifted out. Near the 400 Metres, HORACE’S LEGEND was steadied when held up for clear running behind HAPPY AMBASSADOR and inside KYARA. Throughout the race, FULL SPIRIT and HAPPY AMBASSADOR travelled wide and without cover. A veterinary inspection of KYARA after the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that ATHENIUM had lost its left front plate. JACOBEE and HOT SHOT were sent for sampling.
