When proceeding to the saddling stalls, LUCKY BOY lost its right front plate. This plate was refitted and LUCKY BOY was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. RUMBA KING was fractious in the barriers and as the start was effected was slow to begin. SOLDIER was slow to begin and then despite being vigorously ridden along failed to muster speed. From the outside barrier, KA KA’S PROSPERITY was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Passing the 800 Metres, KA KA’S PROSPERITY proved very difficult to settle and got its head up on a number of occasions when racing behind MULTIPROUD. At the 400 Metres, MAGIC TEMPLE was steadied and shifted to the outside of MAGIC FIGHTER when disappointed for running inside that horse. Approaching the 200 Metres, MAGIC TEMPLE was severely checked when crowded for room between D DAY SUPER and PASSIONATE, both of which shifted marginal ground. As the Stewards were not of the view that there was any rider error involved in this incident, no further action was taken. Throughout the race, PASSIONATE and RUMBA KING travelled wide and without cover. A veterinary inspection of D DAY SUPER after the race did not show any significant findings. RUMBA KING and SUPER CAGA were sent for sampling.
