As T Angland was unable to fulfil the engagement on MY HOME TOWN due to being overweight, Y T Cheng was substituted as the rider of that horse. T Angland was fined the sum of $5,000. From a wide barrier, CALIFORNIA DUDE was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Approaching the 1500 Metres, CORPORAL JONES proved difficult to settle and was steadied away from the heels of HOT SHOT. Near the 200 Metres, CORPORAL JONES was crowded for room between MILITARY ATTACK and CALIFORNIA DUDE (M Chadwick) which, when shifting out to obtain a run to the outside of FREE JUDGEMENT (K C Leung), shifted further when FREE JUDGEMENT shifted ground outwards. Both M Chadwick and K C Leung were advised to ensure that they make every endeavour to prevent causing interference to other runners. Throughout the race, MY HOME TOWN travelled wide and without cover. A veterinary inspection of HOT SHOT after the race did not show any significant findings. MILITARY ATTACK and AOMEN were sent for sampling.
