JADE PINS began awkwardly and then shortly after the start was steadied away from the heels of ALL BOUNTIFUL which shifted out. From the outside barrier, SWEET CORNER was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, KHARU, which was fractious in the barriers, failed to muster speed. For some distance after the 1500 Metres, COOL BEAN proved difficult to settle. After the 1400 Metres, COSMO ONE was left racing very wide and without cover and after the 1300 Metres was allowed to improve its position into the lead. Near the 1300 Metres, CARE FREE PEGASUS was checked away from the heels of PANTHER RUN. Near the 600 Metres, KINGSTON SPARTACUS was steadied when disappointed for running due to CARE FREE PEGASUS shifting out slightly. Rounding the Home Turn, BULLISH POWER was unable to improve due to DANESOUTH commencing to give ground. At the 400 Metres, LIFE OF BEAUTY was severely checked away from the heels of GOLD TARTINI which commenced to give ground abruptly. DANESOUTH, which was racing to the inside of LIFE OF BEAUTY, became unbalanced when crowded for room inside that horse. BULLISH POWER, which was following LIFE OF BEAUTY, was checked away from the heels of that horse as a consequence. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that LIFE OF BEAUTY had sustained wounds to both hind legs. Also at the 400 Metres, KHARU was held up for clear running behind FORTUNE BRAVO and then near the 300 Metres was again held up for clear running behind that horse. For the majority of the race, FORTUNE BRAVO travelled wide and without cover. The performances of GOLD TARTINI and DANESOUTH, which finished tailed out, were considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, GOLD TARTINI and DANESOUTH will both be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned, T Angland stated that he was having his first race ride on ALL BOUNTIFUL and prior to the race it was explained to him by the horse’s trainer that ALL BOUNTIFUL was found in the past to be one-paced. He said after the 700 Metres he was travelling behind COOL BEAN and near the 600 Metres he elected to shift to the outside of that horse with a view to commencing to improve into the race so as not to be left flat-footed when the field sprinted. He said however that at this time ALL BOUNTIFUL responded much better than he expected and improved its position quite rapidly to the outside of COOL BEAN. He said had he have been aware that ALL BOUNTIFUL was going to respond to his riding as it did, he would have elected to remain racing behind COOL BEAN until rounding the Home Turn. A veterinary inspection of GOLD TARTINI after the race did not show any significant findings. BULLISH POWER, JADE PINS and COOL BEAN were sent for sampling.
