ROYAL KNIGHT began awkwardly. AMAZINGLY and SUNNY YING were slow to begin. Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, JOLLY VICTOR was steadied away from the heels of AMAZINGLY which got it head on the side and shifted in when racing tight inside SUNNY YING. Passing the 500 Metres, TURBO JEWELLERY raced tight between HEI HEI POSH and SUNSHINE DAY. At the entrance to the Straight, HEI HEI POSH was steadied away from the heels of AMAZINGLY which shifted out in an endeavour to improve its position outside SUNNY YING. A short distance later, AMAZINGLY was awkwardly placed close to the heels of SUNNY YING which shifted out. Passing the 200 Metres, AMAZINGLY shifted in under pressure and was steadied away from the heels of SUNNY YING. When questioned, D Whyte stated that he had been instructed to take up a forward position on TURBO JEWELLERY from a wide barrier. He said after beginning awkwardly, he rode TURBO JEWELLERY along in the early stages to take up a forward position as instructed, however, it soon became apparent to him that a number of runners to his inside including HEI HEI POSH were being ridden along to obtain forward positions. He said as he formed the opinion that TURBO JEWELLERY would not show sufficient speed to cross HEI HEI POSH to his inside, he elected to shift across behind runners rather than continue to ride his mount along and risk being caught wide. A veterinary inspection of TURBO JEWELLERY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, W C Marwing reported that SUNNY YING, which was having its first race start at Happy Valley tonight, raced greenly throughout the race. A veterinary inspection of SUNNY YING immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. JOLLY VICTOR and ENTHUSING were sent for sampling.
