As the start was effected, OXFORD CHARLEY lifted its front feet off the ground and consequently was slow to begin. MR MARFACH began only fairly. GRAND HARBOUR began awkwardly. From a wide barrier, ACTIVISM was taken across behind runners in the early stages. Near the 1100 Metres, SUPER HORSE lost its left hind plate. At the entrance to the Straight, ACTIVISM was shifted out after being awkwardly placed close to the heels of LOVING STAR which commenced to give ground. MR MARFACH had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight. Approaching the 350 Metres, DRAGON BACHELOR raced in restricted room between SUPERKING DRAGON and HEY CHEERS when obtaining tight running between those horses. Over the concluding stages, OXFORD CHARLEY was steadied away from the heels of SUPERKING DRAGON (H W Lai) which shifted in under pressure. Because of this, OXFORD CHARLEY could not be ridden out to the end of the race as it normally would be. H W Lai was severely reprimanded for failing to stop riding and straighten his mount. Also over the concluding stages, GRAND HARBOUR hung in towards the running rail. For the majority of the race, SURE CHAMP travelled wide and without cover. A veterinary inspection of SUPER STRIKE and DRAGON BACHELOR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. GRAND HARBOUR and SUPERKING DRAGON were sent for sampling.
