SOCCER BRAVE was slow to begin. LUCKY SEBRING began awkwardly. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, WIN CHANCE failed to muster speed. For some distance approaching the winning post on the first occasion, TELEPHATIA proved very difficult to settle and got its head up repeatedly when being steadied at the rear of the field. Near the 1500 Metres, SOCCER BRAVE got its head up on a number of occasions when being steadied in an attempt to obtain cover. After the 1300 Metres, SOCCER BRAVE was left racing wide and without cover. Approaching the 1300 Metres, VIVACIOUS WINNER got its head on the side and lay out towards the heels of CHOICE EXCHEQUER when proving difficult to settle. SWEET BEAN shifted out marginally away from the heels of VIVACIOUS WINNER making the turn near the 950 Metres. WIN CHANCE, which was following SWEET BEAN, attempted to improve of its own accord into tight running inside SWEET BEAN and had to be checked away from the heels of that horse approaching the 900 Metres. Passing the 900 Metres, TELEPHATIA was shifted out away from behind SOCCER BRAVE and allowed to improve its position outside the lead. Passing the 300 Metres, SWEET BEAN raced tight inside ISLAND FLYER which hung in. A veterinary inspection of SOCCER BRAVE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. SWEET BEAN, CHOICE EXCHEQUER and TELEPHATIA were sent for sampling.
