BLAZING PARTNERS began awkwardly.
LUCKY STORM began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of LIVERBIRD STAR which became unbalanced. After this, LUCKY STORM was shifted across behind runners. M F Poon stated that, from a wide barrier, he was asked to ride LUCKY STORM, which was having its first start for a new stable today, quietly in order to have the horse finish off the race strongly. He said when ridden more patiently, LUCKY STORM closed off the race satisfactorily. He added over the concluding stages LUCKY STORM was not able to obtain clear running and consequently was not able to be tested all the way to the end of the race.
JOY MASTER shifted in at the start and bumped FRIENDS OF NANJING.
Passing the 1300 Metres, FRIENDS OF NANJING was steadied away from the heels of GOLD VELVET (A Domeyer) which shifted in. A Domeyer was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
In the middle stages, REEVE’S MUNTJAC raced with its head on the side and lay out.
Throughout the race, FORTUNE WAY travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. The performance of FORTUNE WAY, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, FORTUNE WAY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of FORTUNE WAY immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer”.
SAVVY SEVEN, JOY MASTER and LE PANACHE were sent for sampling.
