NICE BIRDIE jumped only fairly.
LUCK STAR jumped awkwardly.
From wide barriers, EMERGING, BILLIONAIRE SECRET and STARFIRE GEMS were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Near the 700 Metres, STARFIRE GEMS was steadied when awkwardly placed inside KILLER INSTINCT (B Shinn) which shifted in slightly. B Shinn was advised to exercise more care.
Near the 350 Metres, NICE BIRDIE was briefly held up behind BRILLIANT PIONEER which was inclined to lay in slightly.
GREEN LASER raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.
When questioned regarding her riding in the Straight, J Kah stated that from the 800 Metres she was obliged to commence to ride BILLIONAIRE SECRET along to endeavour to improve into the event. She said whilst BILLIONAIRE SECRET responded to her urgings, it only responded in a one-paced manner and for this reason in the Straight she elected to continue to shift BILLIONAIRE SECRET to the outside of runners to ensure her mount secure clear and unimpeded running. When questioned as to why she elected not to improve into a run which was available between FORTUNE PRESIDENT and EMERGING near the 200 Metres, she said she was concerned that this run may close as EMERGING was shifting in slightly and this may result in her mount losing momentum. She added that given the manner in which she was obliged to ride her mount along from the 800 Metres, it would have been detrimental to BILLIONAIRE SECRET’s chances if it were to lose momentum at that stage and this was the reason she elected to continue to shift out. The Stewards found that the tactics adopted by J Kah were reasonable in the circumstances.
After the race, Z Purton could not offer any explanation for the disappointing performance of NICE BIRDIE. A veterinary inspection of NICE BIRDIE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

KILLER INSTINCT, FORTUNE PRESIDENT and BILLIONAIRE SECRET were sent for sampling.
