LEATHER MASTER, which jumped only fairly, was then crowded between DAZZLING FELLOW and RING BELLS which was taken out by SPLENDID STAR. FLYING GALLOP jumped awkwardly and lost ground and then raced keenly throughout the early and middle stages. From the outside barrier, STARSHIP EIGHTY was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. From the 500 Metres, STARSHIP EIGHTY was held up for clear running behind FLYING GALLOP and did not obtain clear running until passing the 350 Metres when it shifted to the outside of DAILY BEAUTY to do so. Approaching the winning post, C L Chau (SUPERB DADDY) dropped his right rein. DAILY BEAUTY raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event. After the race, Apprentice Y L Chung (SMART BEAUTY) stated that, in his opinion, the horse may be better ridden in a more conservative manner in the early stages as it gave ground when placed under pressure in the Straight after being ridden in a forward position. A veterinary inspection of SMART BEAUTY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Also after the race, M Chadwick (HANG’S CHOICE) stated that, in his opinion, his mount was not suited by the solid early pace of the event and was left without a finishing effort. A veterinary inspection of HANG’S CHOICE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Following the race, M L Yeung (RING BELLS) could offer no explanation for his mount’s disappointing performance. A veterinary inspection of RING BELLS immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer” which had previously been reported. DAZZLING FELLOW and SPLENDID STAR were sent for sampling.
