In the Parade Ring, HAPPY HOMING reared, resulting in its rider, C W Wong, being dislodged. When parading behind the barriers, WON TON KING PRAWN became fractious and reared, resulting in its rider, B Doyle, being dislodged. TUXEDO was difficult to load and then became fractious after being loaded. Before being allowed to race again, TUXEDO will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. WON TON KING PRAWN began awkwardly. SUPER GOODIES was slow to begin. Shortly after the start, SPEECHMAKER was crowded for room between LONGWAH RISING and BEST ELEVEN which shifted in. Making the first turn near the 850 Metres, TUXEDO was severely checked and INTELLECTUALSTRIDE badly hampered when crowded for room between SUPER GOODIES which got its head on the side and hung out and BEST ELEVEN (M Guyon) which shifted in. When TUXEDO was severely checked, SPEECHMAKER, which was following, was shifted out away from the heels of that horse. M Guyon was advised that whilst the movement of SUPER GOODIES had a considerable bearing on this incident, nonetheless, in the opinion of the Stewards, he had permitted BEST ELEVEN to shift in slightly which also contributed to the incident. He was advised to ensure that he leaves sufficient racing room for runners to his inside in future. After the 600 Metres, WON TON KING PRAWN got its head on the side and hung out. Near the 350 Metres, INTELLECTUALSTRIDE got its head on the side and shifted in, resulting in HORSESHOE FORTUNE being inconvenienced. After the 200 Metres, HORSESHOE FORTUNE (C K Tong) was held up for clear running and near the 150 Metres was shifted to the outside of FREE AND EASY to obtain clear running. When being shifted out, HORSESHOE FORTUNE made contact with INTELLECTUALSTRIDE, resulting in that horse becoming unbalanced. C K Tong was advised to ensure that he exercises care when shifting ground in similar circumstances. After the 100 Metres, INTELLECTUALSTRIDE was steadied away from the heels of SUPER GOODIES when unable to improve between that horse and HORSESHOE FORTUNE. Because of this, INTELLECTUALSTRIDE was not tested over the concluding stages. Throughout the race, HAPPY HOMING travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. A veterinary inspection of WON TON KING PRAWN after the race revealed that the horse had sustained a small cut to the right hind coronet. BEST ELEVEN and TUXEDO were sent for sampling.
