FORTUNE BRAVO began awkwardly. KOENIGSBERG blundered at the start. From wide barriers, BEAUTY SUCCESS and RIGHT TIMING were taken across behind runners shortly after the start. After being ridden along in the early stages, PEGASUS SUPREME, which was wide, was steadied making the first turn and shifted across to a position closer to the rail. Despite being ridden along in the early and middle stages, BEAUTY SUCCESS became detached from the field. Throughout the race, OUR DYNASTY travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. N Callan (FORTUNE BRAVO) was reminded of his obligation in respect of not raising his whip arm above shoulder height. Z Purton (SKY EAGLE) was reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out right to the end of the race at least hands and heels where circumstances permit. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of FORTUNE BRAVO, N Callan stated that he had ridden the horse in its track work leading up to today’s race which was its first race start on the All Weather Track and this work, in his opinion, had been good. He said based on this work it had been decided to try FORTUNE BRAVO on the All Weather surface today. He said FORTUNE BRAVO travelled only fairly in the early and middle stages and prior to the 1000 Metres had to be ridden along in an attempt to prevent HANDSOME BATCHELOR from shifting in front of FORTUNE BRAVO. He said however that despite being ridden along FORTUNE BRAVO was not travelling well enough to hold its position and he was required to commence to ride the horse with the whip at the 600 Metres. He added despite being ridden along FORTUNE BRAVO commenced to give ground and in the Straight was disappointing. He said the only excuse that he could find for FORTUNE BRAVO’s disappointing performance was that it may have not backed up after having raced last Sunday. After the race, it was noted that there was blood present at the left nostril of BEAUTY SUCCESS. The Veterinary Officer reported that an endoscopic examination of BEAUTY SUCCESS revealed that the horse’s trachea was clean and therefore was not deemed to be a bleeder. A veterinary inspection of OUR DYNASTY and FORTUNE BRAVO after the race did not show any significant findings. FORTUNE BRAVO, HEALTHY BLUEBERRY and GOLDEN TREASURE were sent for sampling.
