Just prior to the start being effected, PERFECT FINISH became fractious and as the gates were released was slow to begin. SEA THE PEARLS began only fairly and shortly after the start was crowded for room between CARRY THE ZEAL and XI YING MEN which shifted in. From the outside barrier, GENUINE LEADER was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Making the first turn after the 1000 Metres, SEA THE PEARLS commenced to travel keenly, got its head on the side and shifted out. Then passing the 900 Metres, SEA THE PEARLS continued to over-race and shifted out when awkwardly placed close to the heels of LOADS OF JOY. After this, SEA THE PEARLS continued to prove difficult to settle when travelling wide and without cover. Near the 700 Metres, LOADS OF JOY was shifted away from behind MI SAVVY after racing close to the heels of that horse and after this travelled wide and without cover. Near the 50 Metres, PERFECT FINISH was steadied away from the heels of BRAVENESS after getting its head on the side and shifting out. After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on GENUINE LEADER at the request of Trainer A T Millard. The Veterinary Officer reported that this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, GENUINE LEADER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of CARRY THE ZEAL after the race did not show any significant findings. BRAVENESS, NEW DEERFIELD and MI SAVVY were sent for sampling.
