As the start was effected, HO HO FEEL, which was fractious in the barriers, lifted its front feet off the ground and consequently was slow to begin. Shortly after the start, SUNNY WAY and WHAT ELSE BUT YOU bumped. From wide barriers, AMBITIOUS PINS and WILLIE WAY were shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Approaching the 1100 Metres, ISHVARA was steadied away from the heels of GORGEOUS KING (S de Sousa) which shifted in when not properly clear. S de Sousa was reprimanded. WHAT ELSE BUT YOU, which was travelling keenly behind ISHVARA, was steadied away from the heels of that horse in consequence and in doing so shifted out and inconvenienced GENERAL SHERMAN which was left racing wide and without cover after the 1200 Metres. Passing the 400 Metres and again near the 250 Metres, UP AND COMING and WHAT ELSE BUT YOU raced tight. Passing the 300 Metres, AMBITIOUS PINS got its head up when steadied away from the heels of GENERAL SHERMAN (N Callan) which shifted out away from MAMBO ROCK. N Callan was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. Passing the 150 Metres, WHAT ELSE BUT YOU was crowded for room between UP AND COMING and GENERAL SHERMAN which shifted in under pressure. N Callan was reprimanded. In this incident, WHAT ELSE BUT YOU and UP AND COMING bumped. Over the concluding stages, HO HO FEEL, which was closing off the race, was checked away from the heels of CLASSIC EMPEROR which was racing tight inside GORGEOUS KING. Consequently, HO HO FEEL was not able to be tested. MAMBO ROCK and GORGEOUS KING were sent for sampling.
