DEAL MAKER was slow to begin. HAPPY HAPPY STAR shifted out at the start, resulting in STARTLING POWER being taken out onto MICKEY RICH which in turn was taken out onto DR RACE. JOY MASTER, which was outside DR RACE, was steadied away from the heels of that horse in consequence and then shifted across behind runners. When being steadied from a wide barrier to obtain cover, DIONYSUS COLLIN was crowded for room shortly after the start between TRIUMPHANT LORD and DASHING GAINER which, after being taken out by NOBLE DE LOVE, then shifted out further away from that horse. Throughout the race, TRIUMPHANT LORD travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, M L Yeung stated that after being ridden for speed in the early stages, STARTLING POWER initially travelled satisfactorily. He said after being crossed by NOBLE DE LOVE which was well clear of STARTLING POWER at the 1000 Metres, STARTLING POWER became uncoordinated in its action for a considerable distance and gave ground abruptly. He said as he felt that the horse may have gone amiss, he immediately commenced to ease it out of the race. He said when being eased out of the race, STARTLING POWER again became badly unbalanced when crossed by DIONYSUS COLLIN which was also well clear of STARTLING POWER. He said, despite his best efforts to ease the horse out of the race, STARTLING POWER would not ease down. He added as he had satisfied himself that STARTLING POWER had not gone amiss after the 700 Metres, he then allowed the horse to trail the field. When STARTLING POWER initially lost ground near the 1000 Metres, DR RACE was severely checked away from the heels of that horse in consequence and also lost ground. A veterinary inspection of STARTLING POWER immediately following the race found that horse to have sustained a wound to the right hind gaskin. The racing manners of STARTLING POWER were considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, STARTLING POWER must undergo a series of consecutive satisfactory barrier trials on the All Weather Track during which the horse will be required to be positioned behind runners and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of DASHING GAINER immediately following the race found that horse to have bled from both nostrils. NOBLE DE LOVE and DEAL MAKER were sent for sampling. <28/1/2019 Additional Veterinary Report>The Veterinary Surgeon reported that MICKEY RICH was lame in its right front leg on the morning after racing. Before being allowed to race again, MICKEY RICH will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
