GLENEALY GENERALS and GO GOAL TOBY bumped at the start. GO GOAL TOBY was then steadied a short distance later when crowded for room between GLENEALY GENERALS and SPLENDID KING which, after beginning awkwardly, was taken in by GALLANT CROWN. DIAMOND PEGASUS shifted out at the start and made contact with SUMSTREETSUMWHERE. After travelling a short distance, ALL JOYFUL shifted out and made contact with FARM BUMPER. After this, from a wide barrier, ALL JOYFUL was steadied and shifted across behind runners. From wide barriers, SUMSTREETSUMWHERE and WINNING GENGHIS were also steadied to obtain cover. In the early stages, SPLENDID KING (M F Poon) travelled keenly and shifted out near the 1000 Metres and inconvenienced BRIGHT KID. After the race, M F Poon reported that when SPLENDID KING was travelling keenly, the bit pulled through the horse’s mouth, causing him difficulty for the remainder of the race. Approaching the first turn, GLENEALY GENERALS got its head up for some distance when being steadied to obtain cover. WOOD ON FIRE, which was following GLENEALY GENERALS, was checked away from the heels of that horse near the 800 Metres. After the 800 Metres, FARM BUMPER was left racing wide and without cover. Passing the 350 Metres, DIAMOND RHYME was crowded for room inside DIAMOND PEGASUS which was taken in by FARM BUMPER (J Moreira) which shifted in. J Moreira was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. Approaching the 300 Metres, GALLANT CROWN was awkwardly placed close to the heels of WINSTON’S LAD after improving quickly behind that horse which shifted out away from WOOD ON FIRE. Near the 200 Metres, the whip of B Shinn (SUMSTREETSUMWHERE) became momentarily caught under the arm of C Y Ho (WINSTON’S LAD). Passing the 200 Metres, GO GOAL TOBY got its head on the side, shifted out and was steadied away from the heels of DIAMOND RHYME. SPLENDID KING and WINNING GENGHIS, which were following GO GOAL TOBY, were inconvenienced. After the race, J Moreira expressed concern regarding the action of FARM BUMPER in the Straight. A veterinary inspection of FARM BUMPER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, FARM BUMPER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of WOOD ON FIRE, N Callan stated that the horse did not travel well at any stage of the race and, in his opinion, was reluctant to stretch out. He said after being placed under heavy pressure rounding the Home Turn, WOOD ON FIRE did not respond to his riding and weakened noticeably over the concluding stages. A veterinary inspection of WOOD ON FIRE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. WINSTON’S LAD and BRIGHT KID were sent for sampling.
