PRIDEOFTHEORIENT bounded in the air at the start and lost ground. At the 500 Metres, DANZIGMOUNTAIN was inconvenienced by RISING WIN which was steadied away from the heels of RAMPANT LION and shifted out. At the 400 Metres, RISING WIN was steadied away from the heels of LIGHTNING SPEED. On straightening, TOUCH DOWN was steadied away from the heels of DANZIGMOUNTAIN which was carried wider by RISING WIN. From on straightening until the 150 Metres, LIGHTNING SPEED was held up and unable to obtain clear running between FRAMES DEPOT and NOBLE ZOOM. Shortly after straightening, PRIDEOFTHEORIENT was steadied and shifted to the outside of PURPLE GOLD to obtain clear running. At the 150 Metres, PURPLE GOLD got its head on the side and hung in. Over the concluding stages, PRIDEOFTHEORIENT hung in. Throughout the race, GLORIOUS RHYTHM travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. Apprentice C W Wong (LORD CAIRNS) explained he had been instructed to lead on the horse, however, he had been advised not to ride his mount along in the early stages to obtain the lead as it was felt the horse would possibly over-race and not settle. He said LORD CAIRNS was a little slow to begin, he encouraged the horse to go forward in the early stages, however, did not ride it along to do so. He said making the first turn LORD CAIRNS commenced to over-race, would not relax and as a consequence went too hard in front. The explanation of Apprentice Wong was accepted. O Doleuze (RAMPANT LION) said it was thought LORD CAIRNS would lead and he had been asked to obtain a forward position behind the speed. He said accordingly he rode along in the early stages, LORD CAIRNS crossed to the lead approaching the winning post on the first occasion and despite his riding RAMPANT LION at that time when racing tight inside NOBLE ZOOM was reluctant to hold its position. He said because of this he had to ride RAMPANT LION along. He said in the middle stages RAMPANT LION raced in a manner which indicated to him that it was not comfortable travelling inside other horses. He said in the early part of the Straight RAMPANT LION while racing close to the rail initially responded to his riding, however, was disappointing in the manner in which it closed the race off. RAMPANT LION was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. GLORIOUS RHYTHM was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of RAMPANT LION and GLORIOUS RHYTHM after the race did not show any significant findings. PRIDEOFTHEORIENT and RISING WIN were sent for sampling.
