CONQUEROR was slow to begin. STEEL NERVES began awkwardly, became badly unbalanced and lost ground. Near the 1000 Metres, ONE TOUCH, which was proving difficult to settle, got its head up. In the middle stages, SHINING DRAGON hung out. On straightening, ONE TOUCH was carried wider by WONDERFUL BLESSING which shifted out. From on straightening until near the 300 Metres, ACTIVE VALOUR was held up and had difficulty obtaining clear running. From on straightening until after the 200 Metres, MOSHI MOSHI was held up and unable to obtain clear running. Over the final 200 Metres, TOWKAY FLYER hung in. In the Straight, STEEL NERVES hung out. Throughout the race, SUNNY DESERT travelled wide and without cover. Y T Cheng (LEADER) explained his mount began awkwardly and made heavy contact with the outside gate of its stall. He said as a consequence of this his left boot was torn. He said shortly after the start he looked down to the left side, then reached down and adjusted his foot in the stirrup. He said because of this LEADER travelled further back than anticipated. ONE TOUCH and LEADER were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of ONE TOUCH and LEADER after the race did not show any significant findings. UNIQUE JEWELLERY and STEEL NERVES were sent for sampling.
