ELITE FORTUNE began awkwardly and bumped the outside gate of its stall. On jumping, SOLAR MIGHTY shifted in and bumped LEGEND OF COLOUR. Shortly after this, SOLAR MIGHTY was inconvenienced when LEGEND OF COLOUR shifted out after being bumped by WIND KNIGHT. At the 450 Metres, BOLERO was steadied away from the heels of HOT PEPPER. Approaching the 400 Metres, SOLAR MIGHTY was steadied and shifted to the inside of GRAND COMMANDS. After the 200 Metres, BOLERO was steadied when disappointed for running between WHISKY POWER and HOT PEPPER which shifted in. Also after the 200 Metres, SOLAR MIGHTY, which was closing the race off strongly, was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of STAR LEGEND which was giving ground. At the 150 Metres, SOLAR MIGHTY was then steadied away from the heels of FLY HIGH which was also giving ground. Over about the final 50 Metres, SOLAR MIGHTY was not able to obtain clear running and because of this was not ridden out to the end of the race as it normally would be. Z Purton (STAR LEGEND) explained when the horse performed well at its first Hong Kong race start over the same course and distance, the race in his opinion despite being the same class was weaker than that of today. He said STAR LEGEND was required to do some work to obtain a forward position and as a consequence did not close the race off. STAR LEGEND was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of STAR LEGEND after the race did not show any significant findings. BOLERO, KILDARE and SOUTH CHINA ELITE were sent for sampling.
