ROCKALOT, which was fractious in its stall, was slow to begin and then despite being ridden along failed to muster speed. PURE ALPHA began awkwardly, bounded in the air and lost ground. SIMPLY THE BEST was slow into stride. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, DANEPRINT failed to muster speed. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, PURE ALPHA, which was proving difficult to settle, was steadied to avoid the heels of FORTUNE GALLOP (D Whyte) which was steadied to come back and shift in to a position closer to the rail. D Whyte was told to exercise care. After the 1200 Metres and again after the 1000 Metres, RISING WIN was checked when crowded for room inside PURE ALPHA which while continuing to prove difficult to settle was steadied away from the heels of WATCHMAN and shifted in. After entering the Back Straight, ROCKALOT became unbalanced when being steadied away from the heels of ENERGETIC BOY. Approaching the 200 Metres, SIMPLY THE BEST was crowded for room when improving into a narrow run between MAXIMUM CHARM which was giving ground and FORTUNE GALLOP which got its head on the side and shifted out slightly. For the major part of the race, SPARKLE travelled wide and without cover. FORTUNE GALLOP and WATCHMAN were sent for sampling.
