On May 29th, in a dirt trial over 1050m (sections: 7-7-3), the horse jumped out quickly but immediately dropped back, moved off the rail on the turn and ran under automatic pressure. Four weeks ago, in a race over the same distance, the performance was subpar; a slow jump led to settling towards the rear, finishing with a fast final two sections. He finished fifth, beaten by one and a half lengths. A subsequent barrier trial showed slight improvement. This time he will carry one pound more weight. Having won twice at this distance previously, with comparable sectionals to his rivals, drawing an inside barrier suggests a hold-up tactic. The finishing kick is expected to be strong within the group. The jockey has some familiarity with the horse’s capabilities and trainer/jockey relationship appears positive; preparation looks thorough, and he seems eager to run.
