A Hamelin (ALLOY KING) was fined the sum of $2,000 for failing to present himself in the Parade Ring by the required time. At the time of declaration, C Y Ho notified a probable overweight of 2 lbs in respect of EVER STRONG’s allocated weight of 116 lbs. C Y Ho then weighed in an additional 1 lb overweight, resulting in Jockey Ho weighing in 3 lbs over the horse’s allocated weight. Jockey Ho was fined the sum of $7,500. As the start was effected, TELECOM MISSILE bounded in the air and consequently lost ground. As this was the second consecutive occasion that the horse had been slow to begin, the Stewards ruled that prior to being permitted to race again, TELECOM MISSILE will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial. JUMBO ENGINE shifted out at the start and bumped WINNING STRIKES. THE ELITES began only fairly. WAYFOONG STAR was steadied in the early stages from a wide barrier to obtain cover. Near the 1000 Metres, THE ELITES and TELECOM MISSILE bumped, causing both horses to become unbalanced. Near the 800 Metres, TELECOM MISSILE lost ground when crowded for room between DOLLAR REWARD which shifted out marginally and JUMBO ENGINE which was taken in by FOCUS (J Moreira) which, when being ridden along, got its head on the side and lay in away from COOL ACE. J Moreira was told that whilst the Stewards accepted that FOCUS was laying in, nonetheless in similar circumstances he would be expected to make every endeavour at the earliest available opportunity to take sufficient measures to prevent his horses from shifting ground. Passing the 800 Metres, SUPREME PATROL raced tight outside FOCUS which shifted out. At the 500 Metres, FOCUS was awkwardly placed outside the heels of DOLLAR REWARD which shifted out. Near the 350 Metres, C Schofield (TELECOM MISSILE) momentarily dropped his left rein. Throughout the race, SUPREME PATROL travelled wide and without cover. After the race, it was reported that ALLOY KING had lost its left front plate. Also after the race, J Moreira stated that FOCUS did not handle the All Weather track today at its first time of asking in a race. He said he had to ride FOCUS continually in the early stages to take up a forward position as instructed and at no stage of the race did the horse travel comfortably. He said when racing wide and without cover, FOCUS was always under pressure and commenced to give ground near the 500 Metres and after this weakened out of the race noticeably. A veterinary inspection of FOCUS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of FOCUS, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, FOCUS will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of EVER STRONG immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon reported that THE ELITES was displaying signs of heat stress. After being loaded into the barriers, EURO LAGO reared and got both front legs into the adjoining stall occupied by DEMONS ROCK. EURO LAGO was removed from the barriers and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said that in his opinion the horse was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, EURO LAGO was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. Having regard to EURO LAGO’s previous record in respect of barrier incidents, the Stewards ruled that that horse must perform satisfactorily in a series of consecutive barrier trials totalling not less than three and be subjected to an official veterinary examination prior to being permitted to race again. Trainer K H Ting was advised that should EURO LAGO perform in a similar manner in either barrier trials or races in the near future, the Stewards would consider making a recommendation to the Stewards of the Jockey Club that the horse be compulsorily retired. REGENCY GEM was slow to begin. AEROSONIC began only fairly and then lost ground when crowded for room between ONE HAPPY STAR and LUCKY TURBO which got its head on the side and shifted out. Also on jumping, ONE HAPPY STAR shifted out and bumped DEMONS ROCK. GRAND POWER began awkwardly and bumped RUBY STARS. Approaching the turn near the 700 Metres, VEGA RHYTHM was awkwardly placed behind JUNGLE BLAZE. ONE HAPPY STAR, which was following VEGA RHYTHM, became unbalanced when being steadied away from the heels of that horse and in doing so shifted out towards the heels of RUBY STARS. Passing the 600 Metres, GRAND POWER was crowded for room between REGENCY GEM and RUBY STARS which got its head on the side and lay out away from VEGA RHYTHM which itself shifted out when awkwardly placed close to the heels of JUNGLE BLAZE. At the 350 Metres and again passing the 250 Metres, LUCKY TURBO and VEGA RHYTHM raced tight. Passing the 200 Metres, DEMONS ROCK became unbalanced when momentarily crowded for room inside KA YING BRILLIANCE which lay in before being directed out to relieve the tightening to DEMONS ROCK. When KA YING BRILLIANCE was directed out, JUNGLE BLAZE was inconvenienced. After this, DEMONS ROCK continued to give ground and near the 100 Metres again momentarily raced in restricted room inside LUCKY TURBO which shifted in away from the heels of KA YING BRILLIANCE to continue improving. Throughout the race, SKY TREASURE and REGENCY GEM travelled wide and without cover. After the race, Z Purton (DEMONS ROCK) stated that it was decided to take advantage of barrier 4 and obtain as forward a position as possible on today’s surface. He said, in his opinion, DEMONS ROCK may not have been suited by being made use of in the early part of the race to obtain a forward position as the horse came under heavy pressure rounding the Home Turn and then did not finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of DEMONS ROCK immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, Apprentice K H Chan stated that, despite being ridden along in the early stages, ONE HAPPY STAR was slow to muster speed. He said when required to race behind runners, ONE HAPPY STAR did not travel comfortably at any stage of the race and, in his opinion, did not handle today’s track surface. A veterinary inspection of ONE HAPPY STAR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of AEROSONIC immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of KA YING BRILLIANCE immediately following the race found that horse to have sustained a small laceration to its left hind heel. KA YING BRILLIANCE, SKY TREASURE and VEGA RHYTHM were sent for sampling.

FULL SAILING, Standby Declared Starter, was withdrawn on 12.6.21 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore). Before being allowed to race again, FULL SAILING will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. WONDERFUL FANTASY, which brushed a rail at the Start, was examined by the Veterinary Officer and passed suitable to race. THIS IS GUTS began awkwardly and then was hampered by STAR OF RED which shifted out after being brushed by CHIU CHOW BROTHER. Passing the 500 Metres, MEGA BONUS (N Callan) improved quickly to be racing close to the heels of DIAMOND DIESEL. MEGA BONUS then shifted out abruptly away from the heels of that horse, resulting in WONDERFUL FANTASY becoming badly unbalanced and stumbling and in turn shifting out and inconveniencing THIS IS GUTS. N Callan was told that whilst the Stewards accepted that MEGA BONUS’ racing manners had largely been responsible for this incident, nonetheless he must ensure that he exercises due care when shifting ground in similar circumstances. Passing the 150 Metres, STAR OF RED was shifted out away from the heels of KABI SMART which shifted out under pressure. Throughout the race, STAR OF RED travelled wide and without cover. At declaration time, B Shinn was declared as the rider of both JUST NOT LISTENING and DASHING FIT. It was established that B Shinn had a firm commitment to ride DASHING FIT. As such, the Stewards permitted Apprentice C L Chau to be substituted as the rider of JUST NOT LISTENING. For this declaration error, B Shinn was fined $2,000. THE BEST HERO and DIVINE REGULUS bumped at the start. LUCKY RUBY began only fairly and then lost ground after being badly crowded for room between DIVINE REGULUS and STEEL WIN which got its head on the side and shifted out. In this incident, DIVINE REGULUS became unbalanced when bumped by LUCKY RUBY. As a result of this incident, LUCKY RUBY (M Chadwick) raced back in the field. M Chadwick stated that when racing behind runners, LUCKY RUBY did not travel well at any stage of the race and after coming under pressure prior to the 700 Metres then failed to finish off the race. He added he attributed today’s disappointing performance to the fact that LUCKY RUBY was not able to take up a forward position where the horse had previously raced best. A veterinary inspection of LUCKY RUBY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. LAPUTA began only fairly and then lost ground when crowded for room inside DASHING FIT which shifted in. After this, LAPUTA was shifted across behind runners to obtain cover. From a wide barrier, FOREVER CITY was also steadied in the early stages to obtain cover. Near the 1000 Metres, FOREVER CITY was awkwardly placed inside the heels of DASHING FIT which shifted in. A veterinary inspection of JUST NOT LISTENING immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. The performance of JUST NOT LISTENING, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, JUST NOT LISTENING will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of DIVINE REGULUS and FOREVER CITY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. STEEL WIN, DASHING FIT and THE BEST HERO were sent for sampling.

CITY LEGEND began only fairly and then was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. JUDY’S STAR shifted out at the start, resulting in PASSING FASHION being taken out onto GOLDEN FOUR which was hampered and in turn shifted out and bumped VIVA POPCORN. After this, from wide barriers, JUDY’S STAR and GOLDEN FOUR were shifted across behind runners. Shortly after the start, COPARTNER ERA shifted in and bumped SALUTATION. Passing the 1100 Metres, SALUTATION got its head on the side, shifted out and brushed COPARTNER ERA. SALUTATION then became unbalanced and shifted out further, resulting in COPARTNER ERA being hampered. Passing the 900 Metres, PLIKCLONE got its head up when racing close to the heels of FREE FOAL which shifted in when just clear. SALUTATION, which was racing behind PLIKCLONE, was steadied away from the heels of that horse in consequence. CITY LEGEND had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight and passing the 300 Metres was directed to the outside of PLIKCLONE to obtain clear running. Passing the 300 Metres, SALUTATION momentarily raced in restricted room between DECISIVE ACTION and VIVA POPCORN which, when shifting to the outside of CITY LEGEND, was awkwardly placed behind that horse. Passing the 100 Metres, PLIKCLONE and CITY LEGEND (Apprentice C L Chau) bumped. Apprentice Chau was warned against the practice of using his whip down the shoulder. Throughout the race, PASSING FASHION travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. A veterinary inspection of PASSING FASHION immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of PASSING FASHION, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, PASSING FASHION will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned, K Teetan stated that he was asked to be positive on DECISIVE ACTION in the early stages to overcome the horse’s wide barrier and if possible obtain a position in about midfield with cover. He said in accordance with his instructions he rode his mount along in the early stages and it appeared likely that he would be able to obtain a position in about midfield as a number of horses were being ridden to obtain a forward position which created an opening between those horses and those which were placed towards the rear of the field. He said however that PASSING FASHION maintained its position to the inside of DECISIVE ACTION and as that horse had a number of runners to its inside, he was not able to immediately shift across to take advantage of the space which had opened up. He said as PASSING FASHION continued to maintain its position inside DECISIVE ACTION passing the 1200 Metres, he had to ride his mount along to clear that horse approaching and passing the 1100 Metres which resulted in the space between runners no longer being available and DECISIVE ACTION being left racing wide and without cover after the 900 Metres. A veterinary inspection of DECISIVE ACTION immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of SALUTATION and SUPER MISSION immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. PLIKCLONE, CITY LEGEND and AWE were sent for sampling.

PARTY GENIUS was then further hampered by INNO LEGEND which was taken out by CHARIZARD. AUGUST MOON shifted out at the start and bumped LUCKY PUZZLE. SUNNY BABY began awkwardly and then bumped FORMULA EXCEL as a result of both horses shifting ground. From the outside barriers, RAGING BLAZE and MASTER HERO were steadied in the early stages to obtain cover. Approaching the 1000 Metres, SUNNY BABY got its head up when being checked away from the heels of GALLANT CAVALIER. At the same stage, RAGING BLAZE also commenced to prove very difficult to settle and, despite the efforts of its rider, improved to be racing close to the heels of GRACYLOVE, resulting in RAGING BLAZE clipping heels and stumbling. When RAGING BLAZE stumbled, that horse shifted in and bumped SUNNY BABY which continued to be awkwardly placed behind GALLANT CAVALIER, resulting in SUNNY BABY shifting in, causing PARTY GENIUS to be hampered and steadied away from the heels of SUNNY BABY. As the Stewards were satisfied that these incidents occurred as a result of both SUNNY BABY and in particular RAGING BLAZE travelling very keenly when the pace of the race was not strong, no further action was taken. Making the turn near the 900 Metres, AUGUST MOON, which was laying out, shifted out and bumped LOYAL BABY. LOYAL BABY then got its head on the side and lay in across the heels of AUGUST MOON passing the 800 Metres, resulting in LUCKY PUZZLE being momentarily crowded for room. After the 100 Metres, CHARIZARD shifted out away from LOYAL BABY and was awkwardly placed inside the heels of GRACYLOVE. GRACYLOVE (C Schofield) then shifted in under pressure, resulting in CHARIZARD being taken in onto LOYAL BABY which was steadied away from the heels of CHARIZARD. C Schofield was severely reprimanded. AUGUST MOON, which was following LOYAL BABY, was steadied away from the heels of that horse in consequence. Because of this, LOYAL BABY was not able to be ridden out all the way to the end of the race. Close to the finishing line, SUNNY BABY was steadied when racing tight to the inside of AUGUST MOON. Throughout the race, AUGUST MOON got its head on the side and lay out. A veterinary inspection of PARTY GENIUS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. KAI XIN DRAGON, which was fractious in the barriers, turned its head to the left on jumping, resulting in the horse being slow to begin. RUN RUN COOL shifted out at the start and bumped SEVEN HEAVENS. SEVEN HEAVENS and RUN RUN COOL were then hampered a short distance after the start by FLYING BONUS which shifted out. A Hamelin (RESOLUTE) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that after the 1100 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of SEVEN HEAVENS, resulting in that horse having to be checked when unnecessarily crowded for room inside RESOLUTE and when being checked shifting in and bumping RUN RUN COOL. A Hamelin was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Thursday, 1 July 2021 and to expire on Monday, 5 July 2021 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). In addition, Jockey Hamelin was fined $40,000. Approaching the 700 Metres, RESOLUTE raced tight inside the heels of STRIKING MR C which got its head on the side and lay in. After being bumped by SUNSET WATCH near the 650 Metres, RUN RUN COOL shifted out away from that horse, resulting in KAI XIN DRAGON being checked when crowded for room inside MEGA HEART. As the Stewards were of the opinion that this incident was attributable to RUN RUN COOL shifting out of its own accord rather than any rider carelessness, no further action was taken. At the entrance to the Straight, STAR OF YUEN LONG attempted to improve into tight running between FLYING BONUS and RESOLUTE, resulting in STAR OF YUEN LONG bumping the hindquarters of RESOLUTE which caused both horses to become unbalanced. STAR OF YUEN LONG then continued to be awkwardly placed when attempting to improve into restricted room and near the 200 Metres was directed to the outside of RESOLUTE when disappointed for running between that horse and FLYING BONUS which shifted out when giving ground. Throughout the race, MAN STAR and STRIKING MR C travelled wide and without cover. After the race, it was reported that GUNNISON had lost its left hind plate. Also after the race, Apprentice K H Chan stated that he had ridden FLYING BONUS in the lead up to today’s race and that work had been good. He said FLYING BONUS did not travel comfortably at any stage of the race. He said because of the manner in which the horse commenced to give ground in the early part of the Straight after being placed under pressure rounding the Home Turn, he was of the opinion that FLYING BONUS did not handle today’s track conditions. A veterinary inspection of FLYING BONUS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of HARMONY SPIRIT, Apprentice C L Chau stated that he was instructed to follow SEVEN HEAVENS as it was felt that this was a horse that would be able to take HARMONY SPIRIT into the race. He said he had to ride his mount along in the early stages in an endeavour to follow SEVEN HEAVENS and, despite being ridden along, HARMONY SPIRIT was reluctant to maintain its position. He said he had to make a lot of use of HARMONY SPIRIT in the early stages in an endeavour to have it improve its position, however, HARMONY SPIRIT was resenting the kickback and was reluctant to improve. He added rounding the Home Turn he shifted HARMONY SPIRIT to the outside of runners and the horse finished off the race one-paced. He said HARMONY SPIRIT’s disappointing performance was solely attributable to the horse resenting the kickback on today’s track surface. A veterinary inspection of HARMONY SPIRIT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of KAI XIN DRAGON immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. SEVEN HEAVENS, MAN STAR and GUNNISON were sent for sampling.

The performance of HARMONY AND RICH, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, HARMONY AND RICH will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of HARMONY AND RICH immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, it was reported that RED DESERT had lost its left front plate. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of KURPANY, J Moreira stated that the horse initially travelled well and it was only after having to race behind HARMONY AND RICH near the 700 Metres that KURPANY came off the bridle. He said KURPANY immediately resented the kickback and did not travel well after this. He said although KURPANY was able to obtain clear running at the entrance to the Straight, by this time the horse was already beaten and he attributed today’s disappointing performance to the horse’s failure to handle the track surface. A veterinary inspection of KURPANY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of HANDSOME BO BO and WE THE SOUTH immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. KURPANY, WILL POWER and CZARSON were sent for sampling.
