10/06/2023  Class 3  Shatin  All Weather Track    1800m   Going: WET FAST  (8.6)    Rating: 083-061

FIERY DIAMOND was withdrawn on 9.6.23 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left hind). Before being allowed to race again, FIERY DIAMOND will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. NORDIC STAR and PERFECT TEAM jumped only fairly. From an outside barrier, SO WE JOY was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Over the final 100 Metres, SO WE JOY, which was inclined to lay in, was held up behind ERIMO and as a consequence could not be ridden out to the finish of the event. When questioned regarding his riding of ADEFILL, K Teetan stated that with his mount stepping up to 1800 Metres for the first time today, he was instructed to endeavour to ride ADEFILL with cover, preferably behind ERIMO. He said in the early stages he was caught wide and without cover and as a result was unable to comply with his instructions. He added that from the 1400 Metres he attempted to shift in to be racing in advance of PERFECT TEAM, however, when that runner held its position to his inside, he was obliged to remain racing wide. He said as ADEFILL was not travelling well and having regard to his instructions, he was reluctant to make a forward move along the Back Straight in an endeavour to obtain a position closer to the rail. He further stated that from the 600 Metres ADEFILL became one-paced as the tempo of the race continued to be run quicker than standard and it was not until straightening that once balanced ADEFILL ran to the line well. Trainer P F Yiu confirmed the instructions issued and the reasons as to why such instructions were issued as detailed by Jockey Teetan. After the race, Z Purton (TIANCHI MONSTER) reported that his instructions were to endeavour to obtain a position midfield with cover. He said from the outside barrier when caught wide in the early stages, he was obliged to allow TIANCHI MONSTER to stride forward and race outside the lead to avoid covering additional ground. A veterinary inspection of TIANCHI MONSTER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of NORDIC STAR immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse’s trachea. Before being allowed to race again, NORDIC STAR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. ERIMO and ADEFILL were sent for sampling.

SUPER EAGLE was slow to begin. EAGLE RUN jumped awkwardly and then was bumped by STRATHPEFFER which shifted out. At the 500 Metres, GREAT FOR YOU was momentarily crowded by STRATHPEFFER which shifted out. Near the 400 Metres, TALENTS SUPREMO was shifted to the outside of TEAM SPIRIT to continue into clear running. Near the 50 Metres, STRATHPEFFER was shifted to the inside of SPARKLING KNIGHT to secure clear running. When questioned regarding the performance of BEAUTY DESTINY, Z Purton stated that his mount travelled comfortably in the early stages, but when asked for an effort near the 300 Metres, BEAUTY DESTINY failed to respond and made a respiratory noise when under pressure whilst giving ground. Trainer F C Lor stated that following its first race start, he had subjected BEAUTY DESTINY to a veterinary examination when no abnormalities could be detected. He said he was satisfied with the manner in which BEAUTY DESTINY trialed prior to today’s event. A veterinary inspection of BEAUTY DESTINY immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse’s trachea. The performance of BEAUTY DESTINY, favourite for today’s race, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, BEAUTY DESTINY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination which must include additional diagnostic assessments. After the race, it was reported that GREAT FOR YOU had bled from both nostrils. BEAUTY DESTINY, AMAZING ROCKY and MIDAS TOUCH were sent for sampling.

INSPIRING CITY jumped awkwardly, became unbalanced and lost ground. Shortly after the start, WINWIN THIRTYTHREE was hampered when crowded between SMART BEAUTY and THIS IS CHARISMA, both of which shifted ground. Also shortly after the start, NORDIC COMBINED blundered and then was shifted across behind runners from a wide barrier in the early stages. Near the 350 Metres, TURTLE AGAIN was briefly held up for clear running behind YOUNG SPARKLE. Then near the 250 Metres, TURTLE AGAIN was shifted to the inside of YOUNG SPARKLE to obtain clear running. INSPIRING CITY was inclined to lay out when placed under pressure in the Straight and near the 250 Metres became awkwardly placed on the heels of GIVE WAY PLEASE which raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event. Near the 200 Metres, WINWIN THIRTYTHREE was steadied when crowded by MAXIMIZE HEART (H Bowman) which, after shifting to the inside of PEAK TO PEAK to obtain clear running, was then taken in by that runner before PEAK TO PEAK was corrected by its rider, C Y Ho. H Bowman was advised to exercise care and to ensure that there was sufficient racing room for him to improve into similar runs in future. Near the 50 Metres, GIVE WAY PLEASE which was giving ground, was steadied to avoid INSPIRING CITY which shifted out slightly. When questioned regarding his riding making the Home Turn, Apprentice E C W Wong (WINWIN THIRTYTHREE) stated that after following MAXIMIZE HEART making the Home Turn, he was content to follow that runner as it was one of the main chances in the event. He said as a result he became held up behind MAXIMIZE HEART making the Home Turn before he attempted to improve into a narrow run just prior to straightening. He added that when there was not sufficient room to improve, WINWIN THIRTYTHREE became disappointed and as a result he was obliged to steady WINWIN THIRTYTHREE. When questioned if there was an opportunity to shift to the outside of MAXIMIZE HEART, Apprentice Wong stated that as he felt MAXIMIZE HEART was one of the main chances in the event, he felt this was the best option to follow MAXIMIZE HEART to allow his mount to finish in the best possible placing in the field. The Stewards advised Apprentice Wong that, in their opinion, the option to shift to the outside of MAXIMIZE HEART to follow MASTER OF LUCK was open to him and in the circumstances he should have availed himself of this run. After the race, K Teetan (YOUNG SPARKLE) reported that his mount was inclined to race keenly in the early stages and as a result was left without a finishing effort. A veterinary inspection of YOUNG SPARKLE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of MAXIMIZE HEART and PEAK TO PEAK immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of GIVE WAY PLEASE immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer” which had previously been reported. MAXIMIZE HEART, MASTER OF LUCK and TRAVEL GLORY were sent for sampling.

10/06/2023  Class 4  Shatin  All Weather Track    1800m   Going: GOOD  (8.6)    Rating: 060-038

ULTRA EXPRESS jumped awkwardly From the outside barrier, SUN OF MAKFI was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. After the 1000 Metres, RELIABLE PROFIT commenced to race keenly and was steadied away from COLOURFUL BARON. KYRUS UNICORN, which was following RELIABLE PROFIT and was also racing keenly, was steadied away from the heels of that runner and shifted out. A short distance later, KYRUS UNICORN was then checked to avoid MISSION BRAVO. ULTRA EXPRESS, which was following KYRUS UNICORN, shifted out and hampered EL VALIENTE. After the race, L Hewitson (KYRUS UNICORN) reported that his mount struck heels in this incident and blundered. In the middle stages, COLOURFUL BARON raced keenly outside the lead. The Stewards opened an inquiry into the reasons for RIGHTEOUS DOCTRINE (B Avdulla) and RELIABLE PROFIT (M F Poon) making contact for some distance in the Home Straight. On the evidence, it was established that near the 400 Metres RIGHTEOUS DOCTRINE shifted to the outside of AMAZING TEENS to secure clear running when there was not quite sufficient room to do so which resulted in RIGHTEOUS DOCTRINE making contact with RELIABLE PROFIT, turning RELIABLE PROFIT in towards RIGHTEOUS DOCTRINE. As a result, RIGHTEOUS DOCTRINE and RELIABLE PROFIT then raced tight and made contact between the 400 Metres and the 200 Metres. Near the 200 Metres, due to heavy contact between RIGHTEOUS DOCTRINE and RELIABLE PROFIT, B Avdulla explained that he became unbalanced and as a result his weight shifted out towards M F Poon before both runners separated near the 100 Metres. After considering all the evidence, the Stewards issued a severe reprimand against Jockey Avdulla and advised that in similar circumstances he must stop riding and straighten his mount to give the runner to his outside room sooner than he did on this occasion. The Stewards were satisfied that although Jockey Avdulla’s left arm and knee extended out towards RELIABLE PROFIT near the 200 Metres, such actions were due to B Avdulla becoming unbalanced. MISSION BRAVO raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event. The performance of PERFECT ROCK, which finished tailed out on the second occasion in its recent starts, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, PERFECT ROCK will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a series of consecutive barrier trials and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After the race, H Bowman (AMAZING TEENS) reported that, in his opinion, his mount was feeling the effects of a number of starts this preparation and as a result did not finish the race off as expected. A veterinary inspection of AMAZING TEENS immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse’s trachea. Before being allowed to race again, AMAZING TEENS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Also after the race, C Wong (LUCKY VICTOR) stated that his mount was pressured in the lead in the early stages by COLOURFUL BARON and as a result was left without a finishing effort. A veterinary inspection of LUCKY VICTOR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Following the race, it was reported that ULTRA EXPRESS had bled from both nostrils and that COLOURFUL BARON had sustained a laceration to the left hind leg. After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on KYRUS UNICORN at the request of Trainer D J Hall. The Veterinary Surgeon said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse’s trachea. Before being allowed to race again, KYRUS UNICORN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of MISSION BRAVO immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. AMAZING TEENS, TURQUOISE ALPHA and EL VALIENTE were sent for sampling.

Near the 250 Metres, READY TO WIN, which was inclined to lay in, shifted in and bumped BRILLIANT WAY, resulting in CAPITAL DELIGHT being hampered as a consequence.
