THE FULL BLOOM shifted out at the start and bumped MONEYMORE which became unbalanced, shifted out and inconvenienced THE ABRAXAS. CHARITYDREAM shifted out at the start and hampered IRON KING. IRON KING was then steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners. ONE STEP AHEAD and ALLOY STAR bumped on jumping. After this, from wide barriers, ALLOY STAR and ONE STEP AHEAD were shifted across behind runners to obtain cover. REGENCY POET shifted out at the start and inconvenienced ALLOY KING. From the outside barriers, ANONYMA and SPICY GRILL were also steadied in the early stages to obtain cover. Near the 950 Metres, ALLOY KING was steadied away from the heels of REGENCY POET (A Hamelin) which shifted in when not properly clear. A Hamelin was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. CHARITYDREAM, which was following ALLOY KING, was awkwardly placed behind that horse in consequence. After the 900 Metres, REGENCY POET was left racing wide and without cover. Making the turns after the 900 Metres, MONEYMORE got its head on the side and lay out and near the 550 Metres shifted out away from SUPER EIGHTEEN and bumped REGENCY POET which became unbalanced. Approaching the 700 Metres, TIGER GLARE travelled keenly and raced close to the heels of WHO’S HORSE. Passing the 400 Metres, SPICY GRILL was steadied after attempting a run to the inside of WHO’S HORSE where there was insufficient room. SPICY GRILL was then badly held up for clear running until after the 100 Metres and consequently was not able to be properly tested. When SPICY GRILL was held up for clear running behind SUPER EIGHTEEN and TIGER GLARE passing the 200 Metres, it shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of TIGER GLARE which was racing tight inside MONEYMORE. This caused TIGER GLARE to become unbalanced near the 150 Metres at which stage TIGER GLARE was also bumped by MONEYMORE which shifted in after being bumped by REGENCY POET. THE FULL BLOOM was held up for clear running from on straightening until passing the 200 Metres at which stage the horse was shifted to the outside of REGENCY POET to obtain clear running. ONE STEP AHEAD had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight and after the 200 Metres was shifted out a number of horses to obtain clear running. Approaching the 50 Metres, ONE STEP AHEAD got its head on the side and lay out, resulting in THE FULL BLOOM and ALLOY KING being inconvenienced. C Y Ho reported that he was instructed to ride ALLOY KING more conservatively as the horse had not been finishing off its races of late when travelling in a forward position. After the race, J Moreira stated that after becoming very fractious in the barriers, ANONYMA did not feel comfortable in its action at any stage and was making an abnormal breathing noise and subsequently failed to finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of ANONYMA immediately following the race found that horse to have an epiglottic entrapment. Before being allowed to race again, ANONYMA will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of MONEYMORE, M L Yeung stated that after initially racing with cover behind THE ABRAXAS, MONEYMORE travelled well. He said however that after the 800 Metres THE ABRAXAS improved forward of SUPER EIGHTEEN to be racing on the rail which resulted in MONEYMORE being left without cover. He said as soon as this occurred, MONEYMORE immediately commenced to lay out and continued to do so rounding the turns. He added after becoming unbalanced near the 550 Metres MONEYMORE was only one-paced in the early part of the Straight and after being crowded for room near the 150 Metres then weakened over the concluding stages. A veterinary inspection of MONEYMORE immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, MONEYMORE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of SUPER EIGHTEEN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. IRON KING and REGENCY POET were sent for sampling.

Passing the 600 Metres, SHOWINA was shifted to the inside of CORDYCEPS TWO after being momentarily awkwardly placed behind that horse. SUPER COMMANDER had some difficulty obtaining clear running passing the 300 Metres. Passing the 200 Metres, SUMMIT CHEERS shifted out under pressure, requiring its rider to stop riding and change his whip into his left hand. When questioned regarding the performance of AMAZING ROCKY, Z Purton stated that after beginning awkwardly AMAZING ROCKY showed good early speed to be able to take up a forward position. He said AMAZING ROCKY travelled strongly in the early and middle stages, but then commenced to lay out noticeably after the 600 Metres. He said AMAZING ROCKY continued to lay out under pressure and near the 200 Metres put in a bad stride and became unbalanced. He said after rebalancing AMAZING ROCKY, his mount continued to lay out and was disappointing in respect of the manner in which it failed to finish off the race. He added when he had ridden the horse previously, AMAZING ROCKY had finished off the race well which was in contrast to the manner in which it close off in today’s race. A veterinary inspection of AMAZING ROCKY immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, AMAZING ROCKY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After the race, K Teetan (MULTIMORE) stated that the horse did not feel comfortable in its action at any stage. A veterinary inspection of MULTIMORE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, MULTIMORE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Also after the race, K C Leung reported that CORDYCEPS TWO, which was having its first race start today, raced greenly and after coming under pressure after the 600 Metres then failed to finish off the race. BEAUTY RUSH stumbled at the start, shifted out and inconvenienced BEAUTY SMILE which began only fairly. From wide barriers, WINNING METHOD and BEAUTY LEGACY were shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Near the 550 Metres, THE CROWN raced tight between WINNING METHOD which improved around THE CROWN and CALIFORNIADEEPSHOT which shifted to the outside of HIGHLY PROACTIVE. In this incident, THE CROWN shifted out after being brushed by CALIFORNIADEEPSHOT and bumped the hindquarters of WINNING METHOD, resulting in that horse becoming unbalanced approaching the 500 Metres. WINNING METHOD then shifted in, causing THE CROWN to become unbalanced when buffeted for room between WINNING METHOD and CALIFORNIADEEPSHOT. Approaching the 200 Metres, WINNING METHOD and THE CROWN raced tight outside the heels of CALIFORNIADEEPSHOT. After the 200 Metres, BEAUTY LEGACY raced tight outside the hindquarters of WINNING METHOD. Passing the 100 Metres, HIGHLY PROACTIVE and CALIFORNIADEEPSHOT shifted out under pressure. The Stewards questioned A Hamelin regarding his use of the whip on BEAUTY LEGACY approaching the 100 Metres. A Hamelin stated that after using the whip behind the saddle in the early part of the Straight, BEAUTY LEGACY lay in and was awkwardly placed outside the heels of WINNING METHOD approaching and passing the 200 Metres when that horse also shifted out. He said he continued to try and use the whip on BEAUTY LEGACY in the normal manner and approaching the 100 Metres drew the whip with a view to using it behind the saddle. He said when he did this, he was aware that he was racing close to A Badel, the rider of WINNING METHOD and as he was drawing the whip, he was concerned that if he continued to pull the stroke, he would strike A Badel and therefore he made the decision to pull out of the stroke rather than continue on. He said this resulted in him lowering the whip down behind the horse’s neck and at no stage did the whip contact the head or neck of BEAUTY LEGACY. He added passing the 100 Metres a gap opened up between BEAUTY LEGACY and WINNING METHOD and therefore he resumed using the whip behind the saddle. After considering A Hamelin’s evidence and after viewing the videos, the Stewards were satisfied that A Hamelin’s whip had not come into contact with the head or neck of BEAUTY LEGACY and therefore no further action was taken. THE CROWN, HIGHLY PROACTIVE and CALIFORNIADEEPSHOT were sent for sampling.

Passing the 1300 Metres, STUNNING IMPACT and PEARL CHAMPION raced tight inside TELECOM ROCKET which got its head on the side and shifted in away from MY ECSTATIC which, after shifting in, was then directed out away from TELECOM ROCKET. Passing the 1100 Metres, EL JEFE was momentarily awkwardly placed close to the heels of STRATHMARTINE which shifted in before being shifted back out. Also passing the 1100 Metres, PEARL CHAMPION was steadied away from the heels of TELECOM ROCKET as a result of both horses shifting ground. When awkwardly placed close to the heels of TELECOM ROCKET, PEARL CHAMPION got its head up. Near the 950 Metres, STUNNING IMPACT, which was improving to be racing close to the heels of CIGAR BUDDIES, got its head on the side, shifted out away from behind that horse and in doing so bumped PEARL CHAMPION, causing both horses to become unbalanced. After the 900 Metres, TELECOM ROCKET was left racing wide and without cover. At the entrance to the Straight, CIGAR BUDDIES and ALL JOYFUL raced tight as ALL JOYFUL attempted to shift to the outside of FORTUNE MASTER which made the Home Turn awkwardly. Then approaching the 400 Metres, MY ECSTATIC, which was improving into tight running between PARTY GENIUS and FORTUNE MASTER, momentarily raced in restricted room as FORTUNE MASTER shifted back in marginally. MY ECSTATIC and FORTUNE MASTER then bumped as MY ECSTATIC obtained clear running between PARTY GENIUS and FORTUNE MASTER. ALL JOYFUL, which was following FORTUNE MASTER, shifted out when awkwardly placed behind that horse and in doing so bumped CIGAR BUDDIES which became unbalanced and shifted out away from ALL JOYFUL, causing TELECOM ROCKET to be hampered and taken out across the running of PEARL CHAMPION which was checked away from the heels of TELECOM ROCKET. As there were a considerable number of factors which influenced this incident, no further action was taken. Passing the 300 Metres, ZONE D was directed to the outside of FORTUNE MASTER to obtain clear running. Near the 250 Metres, ALL JOYFUL got its head on the side and lay out, requiring its rider to change his whip over into his left hand. After this, ALL JOYFUL continued to lay out under pressure. Approaching the 200 Metres, STRATHMARTINE was awkwardly placed outside the heels of TELECOM ROCKET which got its head on the side and lay out. A veterinary inspection of TELECOM ROCKET immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in the horse’s trachea. A veterinary inspection of PEARL CHAMPION immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. FORTUNE MASTER, ZONE D and STUNNING IMPACT were sent for sampling.

From wide barriers, COPARTNER AMBITION, JUDY’S STAR and XPONENTIAL were all shifted across behind runners in the early stages. V Borges (FIRE BALL) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that approaching the 1100 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of E BROTHER, resulting in that horse being unnecessarily hampered and taken in abruptly across the rightful running of URBAN DANCER which was also hampered and in turn shifted in and inconvenienced GALLANT CAVALIER. V Borges was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Sunday, 28 March 2021 and to expire on Thursday, 1 April 2021 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). WINNING STEED was crowded for room on jumping between PRECISION DREAM and NOBLE MAN, both of which shifted ground. EL VALIENTE became unbalanced and lost ground when crowded for room on jumping between EVER LAUGH and ALL FOR ST PAUL’S which shifted in abruptly despite the efforts of its rider. In this incident, EL VALIENTE made heavy contact with the hindquarters of EVER LAUGH which became unbalanced. BRIGHT KID was slow to begin and then was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. From the outside barriers, AION, HAPPY WIN WIN and TOYCOON were all steadied in the early stages to obtain cover. Passing the 1400 Metres, PRECISION DREAM got its head on the side and lay in across the heels of LEGION OF MERIT. Passing the 1300 Metres, AION got its head up on a number of occasions when travelling keenly. Passing the 1100 Metres, EL VALIENTE, which was travelling keenly, shifted in abruptly away from the heels of WINNING STEED which was awkwardly placed behind GREEN ENVY, resulting in BRIGHT KID being crowded for room inside EL VALIENTE which was then directed out to relieve the tightening to BRIGHT KID. Passing the 1000 Metres, NOBLE MAN shifted out away from the heels of ALL FOR ST PAUL’S and momentarily raced in restricted room between that horse and EVER LAUGH. After the 900 Metres, ULTRA EXPRESS was left racing wide and without cover and in the Straight lay in under pressure. Passing the 600 Metres, BRIGHT KID commenced to prove very difficult to settle and got its head up when being checked away from the heels of PRECISION DREAM, resulting in BRIGHT KID shifting out and bumping WINNING STEED which was hampered when crowded for room inside GREEN ENVY. HAPPY WIN WIN, which was following WINNING STEED, was checked away from the heels of that horse in consequence and TOYCOON, which was following BRIGHT KID, also had to be steadied away from the heels of that horse. Passing the 300 Metres, BRIGHT KID improved into tight running between LEGION OF MERIT and EVER LAUGH. When questioned, M Chadwick stated that it was felt that from a wide barrier too much use may have to be made of REGENCY MASTER to obtain a forward position and therefore he was asked to ensure that the horse began well and then attempt to obtain a position with cover in about midfield. He said after shifting his mount across in the early stages, he obtained a position behind ULTRA EXPRESS near the 1200 Metres. He said making the turn near the 900 Metres REGENCY MASTER was bumped by EL VALIENTE which, when travelling keenly, shifted out away from the heels of WINNING STEED. He said after this REGENCY MASTER travelled only fairly and he had to commence riding his mount along prior to the 700 Metres in an endeavour to maintain its position. He added then in the Straight REGENCY MASTER did not finish off the race. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of HAPPY WIN WIN, A Hamelin stated that from a wide barrier he was required to position HAPPY WIN WIN at the tail of the field. He said, in his opinion, HAPPY WIN WIN was not suited by the moderate tempo of the race as his mount travelled keenly throughout and would not relax. He added because of this HAPPY WIN WIN was then not able to finish off the race as it did at its last start. A veterinary inspection of HAPPY WIN WIN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of EL VALIENTE and NOBLE MAN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. GREEN ENVY, ALL FOR ST PAUL’S and BRIGHT KID were sent for sampling.

WORLD FAMOUS, which kicked a rail in the Parade Ring, was examined by the Veterinary Officer on arrival at the barriers and found to be suitable to race. CHAMPION SUPREME was slow to begin. AWE shifted out at the start and bumped the hindquarters of CALIFORNIA TEN. Approaching the 1600 Metres, CALIFORNIA TEN was shifted in away from the heels of ABOVE (J Moreira) which shifted in before being directed back out. J Moreira was reprimanded and advised to ensure that he is properly clear when shifting ground in similar circumstances. After the 1200 Metres, LONDON HALL was left racing wide and without cover and near the 1000 Metres became unbalanced of its own accord. LONDON HALL then gave ground in the Straight and finished tailed out. A veterinary inspection of LONDON HALL immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in its trachea and also found the horse to be a "roarer” which had previously been reported. The performance of LONDON HALL was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, LONDON HALL will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. ABOVE was unable to obtain clear running from on straightening until near the 200 Metres. Then after improving into tight running between WORLD FAMOUS and CHARITY FUN near the 200 Metres, ABOVE raced tight outside WORLD FAMOUS (K C Leung) until after the 100 Metres as WORLD FAMOUS shifted out under pressure. K C Leung was reprimanded and told that in the opinion of the Stewards he should have straightened his mount far sooner than he did on this occasion. Passing the 100 Metres, ARROGANT was shifted out away from the heels of CHARITY FUN. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of CHARITY FUN, K Teetan stated that it was anticipated that LOOKING GREAT, which was drawn immediately to the inside of CHARITY FUN, may lead which would provide his mount with the opportunity to shift across with that horse and obtain a forward position from the outside barrier. He said after initially following LOOKING GREAT across in the early stages, he had to make some use of CHARITY FUN approaching and passing the 1300 Metres to clear LOOKING GREAT which at this stage was racing in a one-off position outside and behind the leader WORLD FAMOUS. He said although he did not have to ride his mount along to improve at this stage, he did feel that having to improve forward of LOOKING GREAT took some energy out of CHARITY FUN. He said after shifting across to race outside WORLD FAMOUS, CHARITY FUN travelled only fairly and when LONDON HALL improved its position around CHARITY FUN after the 700 Metres, CHARITY FUN immediately came under pressure. He said he attempted to hold CHARITY FUN up rounding the Home Turn as he was concerned that the horse was not going to finish off the race as strongly as anticipated and after commencing to ride his mount along in the early part of the Straight CHARITY FUN was disappointing in the manner in which it failed to finish off the race. He added CHARITY FUN was only having its third race start in Hong Kong and last start when successful was able to obtain a position with cover behind the lead which was in contrast to today’s race. A veterinary inspection of CHARITY FUN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of CHARITY FUN, favourite for today’s race and a last start winner, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, CHARITY FUN will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of FLYING MIGHTY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. CHARITY FUN, VINCY and LOOKING GREAT were sent for sampling.

LET’S DO IT began very awkwardly, shifted in on jumping and bumped EXCEED THE STARS which was taken in onto KEEP YOU WARM, causing EXCEED THE STARS to be hampered and LET’S DO IT to lose ground. DUBLIN STAR shifted in on jumping and inconvenienced LOYAL BABY. From the outside barriers, ROYAL AGILITY and PASSING FASHION were shifted across behind runners in the early stages. GREEN REIGN was also steadied to obtain cover shortly after the start. Near the 950 Metres, DUBLIN STAR was awkwardly placed outside the heels of LOYAL BABY which shifted out away from the heels of WINE AND WINE. Passing the 800 Metres, KAI XIN DRAGON, which was travelling keenly, got its head up on a number of occasions. Passing the 400 Metres, MIGHTY VALOR and WAR OF COURAGE bumped. In the early part of the Straight, LOYAL BABY had difficulty obtaining clear running and passing the 300 Metres was awkwardly placed close to the heels of WINE AND WINE. Approaching the 350 Metres, GREEN REIGN was shifted in away from the heels of LOYAL BABY and EXCEED THE STARS to continue improving. Passing the 300 Metres, KEEP YOU WARM improved into tight running between MIGHTY VALOR and WAR OF COURAGE. Near the 150 Metres, GREEN REIGN improved into tight running inside MIGHTY VALOR which was giving ground. Throughout the race, BIG FORTUNE travelled wide and without cover. A veterinary inspection of MIGHTY VALOR immediately following the race found that horse to be lame in its right front leg. As this was the second consecutive occasion that MIGHTY VALOR had been found to be lame in the right front leg, the Stewards ruled that prior to being permitted to race again, that horse will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. FANTASTIC WAY and DUBLIN STAR were sent for sampling.

SPEEDY MOUSE began very awkwardly and lost ground. VALIANT DREAM shifted out at the start and inconvenienced LARSON. TRILLION WIN shifted out at the start and bumped FIGHTING STAR. PRINCE OF GEMS began awkwardly. After the 800 Metres, SUPER AXIOM, which was travelling keenly and awkwardly placed behind WINNER METHOD, got its head on the side and shifted out when racing tight outside LARSON which resulted in FIGHTING STAR being taken out onto the hindquarters of PRINCE OF GEMS which became unbalanced. PRINCE OF GEMS was then awkwardly placed outside BLOTTING PAPER which shifted in marginally, resulting in FIGHTING STAR being crowded for room between PRINCE OF GEMS and SUPER AXIOM which continued to race tight outside LARSON. FIGHTING STAR was held up for clear running approaching the 300 Metres and was then shifted to the inside of LARSON to obtain clear running. Passing the 200 Metres, LUCKY QUALITY was directed to the inside of TRILLION WIN to continue improving. When questioned, M Chadwick stated that it was intended for SUPER AXIOM to lead. He said after stumbling badly at the start, shifting out and bumping CHEERFUL LEADER, SUPER AXIOM was not able to show sufficient speed to obtain a forward position and therefore the horse was required to race behind WINNER METHOD. He said when racing amongst horses, SUPER AXIOM would not relax and travelled too keenly and because of this was not able to finish the race off. He added, in his opinion, the disappointing performance of SUPER AXIOM was as a result of the horse’s immaturity when having to race amongst horses. A veterinary inspection of SUPER AXIOM immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in the horse’s trachea. A veterinary inspection of TRILLION WIN and PRINCE OF GEMS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. WINNER METHOD and VALIANT DREAM were sent for sampling.

28/02/2021  Shatin  Race 10 Steward Report

28/02/2021  Class 3  Shatin  Turf  B+2  1400m   Going: GOOD  (2.72)   Rating: 079-061

NEW FUTURE shifted in at the start and bumped NOBLE STEED. After this, NOBLE STEED and NEW FUTURE raced tight. Shortly after the start, UNIVERSAL HERO shifted out and was awkwardly placed inside the heels of COMPASSION SPIRIT. SACRED IBIS was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Approaching the 1100 Metres, KYRUS UNICORN got its head up when awkwardly placed behind ISLAND SHINE. KASI FARASI was held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight and passing the 350 Metres was directed to the inside of NOBLE STEED to obtain clear running. Then close to the finishing line, KASI FARASI was shifted out away from the heels of UNCLE STEVE. When questioned, A Hamelin stated that from a wide barrier he was instructed to obtain a more forward position than usual on XIANG YIN as it was felt that shifting the horse across behind runners in the early stages would leave XIANG YIN with too much work to do in the Straight. He said he was also asked to attempt to obtain cover behind the speed if possible. He said after riding XIANG YIN positively in the early stages, he was initially able to obtain a position three wide with cover behind REGENCY BO BO approaching the 1100 Metres. He said however that when REGENCY BO BO improved to be racing outside the lead, this resulted in XIANG YIN travelling wide and without cover from the 1000 Metres. He added XIANG YIN did not travel strongly at any stage and after coming under pressure in the early part of the Straight then gave ground noticeably over the concluding stages. Mr F C Lor, the trainer of XIANG YIN, confirmed the instructions were for XIANG YIN to be ridden in a more forward position if the horse began well. He said he was of the opinion that horses which were ridden towards the front half of the field had been advantaged in today’s races and therefore shifting XIANG YIN across runners in the early stages would have resulted in the horse having to make up too much ground in the Straight. He said it was hoped that XIANG YIN would be able to obtain cover behind the speed, however, due to the circumstances of the race XIANG YIN was left racing wide and without cover in the early stages and because of this was not able to finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of XIANG YIN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. SILVER EXPRESS and UNCLE STEVE were sent for sampling.
