After being loaded into the barriers, LUCKY GOR became fractious, reared, got its left front leg over the adjoining barrier partition and sat down. LUCKY GOR was removed from the barriers and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said that in his opinion it was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, LUCKY GOR was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. Before being allowed to race again, LUCKY GOR will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Following the withdrawal of LUCKY GOR, all horses were removed from the barriers and the start of the race was delayed. ACA POWER and FLYING HIGH bumped at the start. FLYING HIGH was then awkwardly placed inside the heels of HAPPY FAT CAT a short distance after the start. TURBO POWER shifted in at the start and bumped ISLAND SHINE. EL JEFE began very awkwardly, shifted out and bumped TSUEN WAN GLORY which also shifted in on jumping. This resulted in both horses becoming unbalanced and losing ground. KOWLOON EAST STAR began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped CALIFORNIA VANES. Passing the 600 Metres, FORTUNE MARBO shifted in abruptly, resulting in ACA POWER being checked in away from the heels of FORTUNE MARBO. After this, FORTUNE MARBO lay in under pressure. Near the 350 Metres, HAPPY FAT CAT shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of CALIFORNIA VANES which became unbalanced. Passing the 300 Metres, HAPPY FAT CAT raced tight outside CHEVAL VALIANT which shifted out. CHEVAL VALIANT then lay out under pressure for the remainder of the race. Approaching the 50 Metres, FLYING HIGH, which was laying out, shifted out and inconvenienced TURBO POWER. A veterinary inspection of GIVE WAY PLEASE immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer” which had previously been reported. CALIFORNIA VANES, KOWLOON EAST STAR and FLYING HIGH were sent for sampling.

SILVER EXPRESS was withdrawn on 21.1.22 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore). Before being allowed to race again, SILVER EXPRESS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After proceeding towards the Start, THE GOLDEN SCENERY proved reluctant to continue up to the barriers. This resulted in a delay to the start. Trainer A S Cruz was advised that a warning will be placed on THE GOLDEN SCENERY in respect of this matter. ROMAN TURBO began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped THE GOLDEN SCENERY. TEMPEST EXPRESS got its head up on a number of occasions and travelled keenly when being steadied to obtain cover passing the 1200 Metres. Approaching the 700 Metres, E STAR was awkwardly placed close to the heels of SETANTA which was taken out by HIGHLAND FORTUNE. Approaching the 600 Metres, SETANTA was awkwardly placed behind ROMAN TURBO. For some distance after the 100 Metres, TEMPEST EXPRESS raced tight outside E STAR which shifted out. Then close to the finishing line, E STAR and TEMPEST EXPRESS bumped. As a result of E STAR and TEMPEST EXPRESS racing tight, the riders of those horses were unable to fully ride their mounts out over the concluding stages. Approaching the 50 Metres, THE GOLDEN SCENERY shifted out abruptly. For the majority of the race, ROMAN TURBO travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, A Badel stated that after obtaining a good position in the early stages, HIGHLAND FORTUNE travelled well in the race which was run at a moderate tempo. He said HIGHLAND FORTUNE came under heavy pressure after the 500 Metres and, despite being ridden along, commenced to give ground passing the 300 Metres and then when weakening out of the race did not feel comfortable in its action. A veterinary inspection of HIGHLAND FORTUNE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. As this was the second consecutive occasion that a rider has expressed concern regarding the action of HIGHLAND FORTUNE, the Stewards referred this matter to the Department of Veterinary Regulation, Welfare and Biosecurity Policy for further assessment. Further, the Stewards ruled that HIGHLAND FORTUNE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again. THE GOLDEN SCENERY and SETANTA were sent for sampling.

23/01/2022  Group One  Shatin  Turf  A  1200m   Going: GOOD  (2.72)   Rating: 121-101

WELLINGTON shifted out at the start and bumped SUPER WEALTHY. STRONGER shifted out on jumping and bumped COURIER WONDER which in turn shifted out and brushed MASTER EIGHT. SUPER WEALTHY travelled keenly for some distance approaching and passing the 1000 Metres when being steadied to obtain cover. When being steadied, SUPER WEALTHY shifted in and bumped WELLINGTON near the 1000 Metres. Approaching the 600 Metres, MASTER EIGHT was bumped on the hindquarters by HOT KING PRAWN which shifted out when travelling close to the heels of COURIER WONDER. SUPER WEALTHY, which was racing behind HOT KING PRAWN and continuing to travel keenly, was shifted out away from the heels of that horse in consequence. Passing the 400 Metres, HOT KING PRAWN, which was endeavouring to improve into tight running between COURIER WONDER and MASTER EIGHT, raced tight inside MASTER EIGHT which shifted in. This resulted in HOT KING PRAWN bumping the hindquarters of MASTER EIGHT which became unbalanced. WELLINGTON was held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight and passing the 300 Metres was shifted to the outside of COURIER WONDER, resulting in HOT KING PRAWN being inconvenienced and taken wider. Near the 75 Metres, STRONGER and SKY FIELD (B Shinn) brushed as SKY FIELD shifted in under pressure. SKY FIELD and STRONGER then raced tight over the concluding stages, resulting in B Shinn being restricted in his use of the whip. A Badel (WELLINGTON) was reminded of his obligations in respect of not raising his whip arm above the height of his shoulder. After the race, M Chadwick stated that when required to travel three wide and without cover throughout the race, MASTER EIGHT lay out after the 700 Metres and again rounding the Home Turn. He said after coming under pressure on straightening, MASTER EIGHT did not respond to his riding and weakened over the concluding stages. He added that, in his opinion, the considerable step-up in grade today together with the horse being required to travel wide and without cover were the reasons for it not being able to finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of MASTER EIGHT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of COURIER WONDER immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, COURIER WONDER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. COURIER WONDER, STRONGER and SKY FIELD were sent for sampling.

WIN CHARM lifted its front feet off the ground as the start was effected and then was bumped by INDIGENOUS REALM which shifted out after being brushed by SUPER HORNET. NORDIC WARRIOR began only fairly. LIFELINE VISION shifted out at the start and bumped MILLENNIUM FALCON which was crowded for room inside DASSIT which was taken in by JIANGXI STAMINA. From the outside barriers, ROBOT WARRIOR and VUKAN were shifted across behind runners in the early stages. A short distance after the start, JIANGXI STAMINA was crowded for room inside DANDY YEARS which, when being steadied, got its head on the side and shifted in. JIANGXI STAMINA was then steadied to obtain cover. After the 1300 Metres, JIANGXI STAMINA was awkwardly placed outside the heels of LIFELINE VISION. Approaching and passing the 1200 Metres, DANDY YEARS travelled keenly when being steadied to obtain cover. For some distance after the 1200 Metres, INDIGENOUS REALM travelled keenly. Passing the 1000 Metres, MILLENNIUM FALCON got its head up when travelling keenly and awkwardly placed close to the heels of CHARGE ON. MILLENNIUM FALCON again travelled keenly approaching and passing the 800 Metres and after the 750 Metres shifted out, resulting in LIFELINE VISION being taken wider and without cover. DASSIT got its head on the side and lay out rounding the Home Turn. Passing the 400 Metres, JIANGXI STAMINA was shifted out away from the heels of SUPER HORNET to obtain clear running. Passing the 100 Metres, NORDIC WARRIOR shifted out and raced tight inside CHARGE ON. MILLENNIUM FALCON had difficulty obtaining clear running in the Straight and over the concluding stages raced tight outside the heels of CHARGE ON. Because of this, MILLENNIUM FALCON was not able to be fully tested over the latter stages. DASSIT lay out under pressure in the Straight. For the majority of the race, PRIDE OF DRAGON travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, Mr C S Shum, trainer of DANDY YEARS, stated that as the connections of that horse were disappointed with the manner in which it finished off the race at its most recent start when ridden along in the early stages to obtain a forward position, he had instructed A Hamelin to attempt to obtain a midfield position on DANDY YEARS today and preferably to remain racing one horse off the rail. He said it was hoped that by riding the horse more conservatively in the early stages, DANDY YEARS would be able to finish the race off better than it did at its last start. A veterinary inspection of DANDY YEARS immediately following the race found that horse to have bled from both nostrils. A veterinary inspection of ROBOT WARRIOR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. BEAUTY LIVE and PRIDE OF DRAGON were sent for sampling.

THE CROWN shifted out at the start and bumped PEGASUS GENERAL. PEGASUS GENERAL was then bumped shortly after the start by REGENCY BO BO which shifted in away from TURQUOISE HOPE. TEAM SPIRIT shifted out at the start and bumped EXCELLENT DADDY. From a wide barrier, READY TO WIN was steadied in the early stages. EXCELLENT DADDY travelled keenly in the lead in the middle stages. BIRDSVILLE made the Home Turn awkwardly, shifted out and bumped HERE COMES TED. BIRDSVILLE then shifted in and was momentarily awkwardly placed outside the heels of REGENCY BO BO at the entrance to the Straight. REGENCY BO BO lost its left hind plate at the entrance to the Straight. After the 100 Metres, THE CROWN was unable to obtain clear running when held up behind TEAM SPIRIT. This resulted in THE CROWN being checked away from the heels of TEAM SPIRIT close to the finishing line as that horse raced tight inside PEGASUS GENERAL. Near the 75 Metres, BIRDSVILLE raced tight inside HERE COMES TED (M Chadwick) which shifted in under pressure. BIRDSVILLE was then momentarily eased away from the heels of HERE COMES TED after the 50 Metres as that horse, which was continuing to lay in, was taken in by READY TO WIN (K C Leung) which shifted in when being ridden out. REGENCY BO BO, which was racing to the inside of BIRDSVILLE, was crowded for room inside that horse, and PEGASUS GENERAL, which was racing inside REGENCY BO BO, also raced in restricted room between that horse and TEAM SPIRIT. Because of this, REGENCY BO BO, PEGASUS GENERAL and TEAM SPIRIT were not able to be fully tested over the concluding stages. Both M Chadwick and K C Leung were reprimanded and told that in future they would be expected to make every endeavour in a timely manner to prevent their mounts from shifting ground. For the majority of the race, READY TO WIN travelled wide and without cover. When questioned regarding the performance of JUMBO FORTUNE, J Moreira stated that as the start was effected, JUMBO FORTUNE, which was having its first race start in Hong Kong today, lifted its front feet off the ground and consequently was slow to begin. He said this resulted in the horse having to race back in the field. He said JUMBO FORTUNE travelled comfortably in the early stages and approaching and passing the 700 Metres he was able to improve his position to be racing inside THE CROWN. He said he placed JUMBO FORTUNE under pressure prior to and rounding the Home Turn and after getting too far out of its ground in the early stages due to the manner in which the horse began, he was of the opinion that JUMBO FORTUNE finished the race off satisfactorily over the latter stages. A veterinary inspection of JUMBO FORTUNE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of TEAM SPIRIT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. JUMBO FORTUNE, READY TO WIN and HERE COMES TED were sent for sampling.

PAKISTAN FRIEND shifted out at the start and bumped DARCI JOY which in turn shifted out and bumped JOYFUL HEART. BIG BROOK was crowded for room on jumping between SUPER ELEGANCE and YES WE CAN, both of which shifted ground. After this, YES WE CAN was steadied to obtain cover. From the outside barriers, AI ONE and DECISIVE ACTION were shifted across behind runners in the early stages. After travelling a short distance, DARCI JOY shifted in and bumped PAKISTAN FRIEND. DARCI JOY then shifted out, resulting in JOYFUL HEART being inconvenienced. After the 1000 Metres and again making the turn after the 900 Metres, BIG BROOK and YES WE CAN raced tight. After the 400 Metres, DARCI JOY got its head on the side and lay in and was reluctant to improve to the outside of PAKISTAN FRIEND. DARCI JOY continued to lay in approaching the 200 Metres and was shifted out away from the heels of PAKISTAN FRIEND which shifted out. After the 200 Metres, SUPER ELEGANCE had some difficulty obtaining clear running. A veterinary inspection of FLYING MIGHTY immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer” which had previously been reported. C Y Ho (GOLDEN SIXTY) was fined the sum of $2,000 for failing to present himself in the Parade Ring by the required time. WAIKUKU shifted in at the start and bumped RUSSIAN EMPEROR. MORE THAN THIS was steadied in the early stages to obtain cover. Approaching the 500 Metres, SKY DARCI raced tight outside GOLDEN SIXTY when being taken wider by that horse which shifted to the outside of MORE THAN THIS. GOLDEN SIXTY raced tight outside MORE THAN THIS at the entrance to the Straight as that horse lay out. Passing the 300 Metres, MORE THAN THIS raced tight between KINGS SHIELD and GOLDEN SIXTY which shifted in. When questioned, C Y Ho stated that, from barrier 1, he had intended to shift away from the rail in the early stages as he did not want to be held up for clear running at any stage of the race. He said in the small field he expected that GOLDEN SIXTY would race at the rear of the field, however, would be closer to the main body of the field than what it eventuated in this race. He said he anticipated that SKY DARCI and MORE THAN THIS would be closer in the run than they were and that he would race behind that pair of runners and shift to the outside near the 600 Metres. He said whilst the opportunity was available for GOLDEN SIXTY to improve along the Back Straight to be racing inside MORE THAN THIS, he was reluctant to allow GOLDEN SIXTY to do so given the possibility to be held up for clear running as horses on the pace gave ground and also that it appeared from the earlier races that horses racing away from the rail may have been advantaged. He said passing the 600 Metres he shifted out to be racing behind MORE THAN THIS and then near the 550 Metres improved to the outside of that horse. He said to do this he was required to brush SKY DARCI and take that horse wider. He said whilst he was comfortable with his decision not to improve inside MORE THAN THIS in the early and middle stages, he felt that it may have been more preferable to have shifted to the outside of MORE THAN THIS earlier than what he did to commence improving into the race. A veterinary inspection of HEALTHY HAPPY immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, HEALTHY HAPPY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. WAIKUKU and GOLDEN SIXTY were sent for sampling.

MARVEL DRAGON was crowded for room on jumping between AUGUST MOON and FANTASY SPRING, both of which shifted ground. CLASSIC MOON shifted out at the start and bumped PRESIDENT’S CHOICE. After this, CLASSIC MOON and PRESIDENT’S CHOICE were steadied to obtain cover. From wide barriers, DURHAM STAR and SIXTH GENERATION were also steadied in the early stage to obtain cover. Passing the 1100 Metres, AMAZING VICTORY shifted in and bumped FANTASY SPRING. Near the 950 Metres, FANTASY SPRING shifted out and bumped AMAZING VICTORY which was being steadied to obtain a position closer to the rail with cover. AUGUST MOON lay out rounding the Home Turn and was awkwardly placed inside BAEBAE TSOI. MARVEL DRAGON was held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight. SIXTH GENERATION had some difficulty obtaining clear running passing the 400 Metres. Throughout the race, E BROTHER travelled wide and without cover. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of CLASSIC MOON, K C Leung stated that as with its first start in Hong Kong when successful, CLASSIC MOON was ridden at the rear of the field today from a wide barrier. He said CLASSIC MOON travelled well in the early stages and initially responded well when the tempo of the race commenced to quicken after the 600 Metres. He said he shifted CLASSIC MOON to the outside of runners rounding the Home Turn, however, the horse came under pressure shortly after entering the Straight. He added after initially staying on one-paced when being ridden along, CLASSIC MOON would not respond to his riding after the 300 Metres and then was disappointing in the manner in which it failed to finish the race off. He said, in his opinion, CLASSIC MOON did not handle the increase in weight from 124 lbs last start to top weight of 133 lbs today. A veterinary inspection of CLASSIC MOON immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of CLASSIC MOON, a last start winner and which finished at the rear of the field, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, CLASSIC MOON will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of BAEBAE TSOI immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. PINS PRINCE and LESLIE were sent for sampling.

WINNING DRAGON lifted its front feet off the ground as the start was effected and shifted out, hampering ENTRUSTED. NORDIC SKY began awkwardly, shifted out and brushed SUPERBELLA. HIT THE SHOT was crowded for room on jumping between KING TOURBILLON and NATURAL STORM which shifted out. After this, NATURAL STORM and HIT THE SHOT were steadied to obtain cover. From a wide barrier, VINCY was also steadied in the early stages to obtain cover. After the 1600 Metres, HELENE ALLIBOR was left racing wide and without cover and was then allowed to improve its position to race outside the lead after the 1100 Metres. ENTRUSTED had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight. Passing the 400 Metres, FLYING TURBO raced tight outside SUPERBELLA which improved into restricted room between FLYING TURBO and CHARITY GO. FLYING TURBO then shifted out away from SUPERBELLA, resulting in KING TOURBILLON being steadied away from the heels of that horse passing the 350 Metres. Near the 250 Metres, M Chadwick (VINCY) dropped his whip. Passing the 200 Metres, HELENE ALLIBOR raced tight inside the heels of NORDIC SKY. After the 200 Metres, INTREPID WINNER was shifted to the inside of CHARITY GO to obtain clear running. For the majority of the race, FLYING TURBO travelled wide and without cover. After the race, M L Yeung stated that, in his opinion, CHEVALIER PRINCE performs best when able to obtain cover. He said due to the makeup of today’s race in the early stages, CHEVALIER PRINCE was required to race wide and without cover until being crossed by HELENE ALLIBOR after the 1100 Metres. A veterinary inspection of CHEVALIER PRINCE immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in the horse’s trachea. A veterinary inspection of WINNING DRAGON and HELENE ALLIBOR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. SUPERBELLA and CHARITY GO were sent for sampling.

23/01/2022  Shatin  Race 10 Steward Report

23/01/2022  Class 3  Shatin  Turf  A  1400m   Going: GOOD  (2.72)   Rating: 080-062

CIRCUIT STELLAR began only fairly and shifted out towards the hindquarters of CIRCUIT MIGHTY. HALL OF CHAMP shifted in at the start and bumped the hindquarters of STAR BRITE which in turn shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of SEASONS BLISS. NOTHING NEW began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped DRAGON FORTUNE. BEAUTY CHAMP got its head up on jumping when being steadied from a wide barrier to obtain cover. From a wide barrier, KASI FARASI was also steadied to obtain a position closer to the rail. M Chadwick (NOTHING NEW) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that passing the 1300 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of NAVAS TWO, resulting in that horse being hampered when crowded for room inside NOTHING NEW. In the circumstances, M Chadwick was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 2 March 2022 and to expire on Monday, 7 March 2022 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). STAR BRITE, which was racing keenly inside NAVAS TWO, was inconvenienced in consequence. When being steadied to obtain cover, PEGASUS HERO shifted in after the 1300 Metres and bumped HALL OF CHAMP. After the 1200 Metres, BEAUTY CHAMP over-raced and got its head up on a number of occasions. Approaching and passing the 1000 Metres, STAR BRITE commenced to prove very difficult to settle and was checked away from the heels of SEASONS BLISS for a considerable distance. Then passing the 500 Metres, STAR BRITE was checked out away from the heels of HALL OF CHAMP. CIRCUIT STELLAR got its head on the side and lay out rounding the Home Turn. CIRCUIT MIGHTY made the Home Turn awkwardly, shifted out and hampered NOTHING NEW which was taken out onto CLASSIC POSH, resulting in that horse being shifted out away from the heels of NOTHING NEW when racing tight inside NAVAS TWO. Passing the 400 Metres, HEZA BEAUTY shifted in and bumped HALL OF CHAMP. DRAGON FORTUNE was badly held up for clear running from approaching the 300 Metres until near the 200 Metres. Approaching the 200 Metres, SEASONS BLISS was shifted out away from the heels of CIRCUIT STELLAR which shifted out under pressure. SEASONS BLISS then shifted out away from CIRCUIT STELLAR and inconvenienced CIRCUIT MIGHTY. Near the 100 Metres, J Moreira (CIRCUIT STELLAR) dropped his whip. NAVAS TWO travelled wide and without cover throughout. When questioned, H Bentley (DRAGON FORTUNE) stated that from a wide barrier he was asked to attempt to obtain a position in about midfield with cover if possible. He said after shifting his mount across in the early stages, he was not able to obtain cover due to HEZA BEAUTY maintaining its position behind NAVAS TWO. He said rather than remain racing wide, he believed that it would be more beneficial for DRAGON FORTUNE to be steadied to obtain cover behind initially HEZA BEAUTY and then BEAUTY CHAMP rather than riding his mount along in an attempt to clear runners to his inside and obtain a forward position. He said this resulted in DRAGON FORTUNE racing much further back in the field than had been intended. After the race, B Shinn attributed the disappointing performance of HEZA BEAUTY to the fact that the horse was required to race very wide and without cover for the majority of the race. A veterinary inspection of HEZA BEAUTY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of PEGASUS HERO and NOTHING NEW immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. NAVAS TWO and SEASONS BLISS were sent for sampling.
