GEM POWER began awkwardly, shifted in and for some distance was awkwardly placed close to the heels of CELESTIAL WONDER. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, SHOW BRAVELY failed to muster speed. In the early stages, CELESTIAL WONDER proved difficult to settle. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, SHOW BRAVELY was steadied away from the heels of SPEED OF LIGHT. Near the 200 Metres, SILVERBIRD, which had been experiencing difficulty obtaining clear running, was steadied away from the heels of GEM POWER which when giving ground hung in away from LUCKY CORDELIA which at this time also shifted in. No action was taken. At the 150 Metres, SHOW BRAVELY was steadied and shifted to the outside of CELESTIAL WONDER to continue going forward. Throughout the race, GEM POWER hung in. SILVERBIRD was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, SILVERBIRD was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, SILVERBIRD will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SPICY HOT, CHINA SPORTFIELD and CELESTIAL WONDER were sent for sampling.
