After arriving at the Start, it was noted CHINA HERO had lost its right front plate during the preliminary. CHINA HERO was replated and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. WIN-A-LOT began awkwardly, got its head up and lost a considerable amount of ground at the start, then making the turn at the 1000 Metres got its head on the side, shifted in, bumped the running rail and became unbalanced. In the early and middle stages, CHINA HERO travelled wide and without cover. After the 600 Metres, STAR OF FAME bumped the running rail when momentarily crowded for room inside BRILLIANT ONE. In the early part of the Straight, COUNTRY MAGIC hung in. In the Straight, CHINA HERO hung in and proved difficult to ride. The performance of HONEST TREASURE, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, HONEST TREASURE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned regarding the performance of STAR OF FAME, D Beadman said he had not ridden the horse prior to tonight’s race. He said he was obliged to make some use of STAR OF FAME in the early stages to obtain a handy position. He added in the Straight STAR OF FAME did not finish the race off as he anticipated and he felt this was as a result of the use made of STAR OF FAME in the early stages. WIN-A-LOT was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of WIN-A-LOT after the race did not show any significant findings. STAR OF FAME, ESPERANZA and SUPER GENERAL were sent for sampling.
