INDUSTRIAL LEGEND was slow to begin. LUCKY ARMY began awkwardly and then shortly after the start was steadied away from the heels of CHAMPAGNE DAYS which shifted out. Shortly after the start, SUGAR ON TOP and FATBOY SUGAR were crowded for room between COOL CAT and FLASHING GUY, both of which shifted ground. Making the first turn near the 850 Metres, INDUSTRIAL LEGEND became unbalanced when awkwardly placed close to the heels of SUGAR ON TOP. INDUSTRIAL LEGEND then shifted out and made contact with the hindquarters of ANDIAMO which became unbalanced. Rounding the Home Turn, CHAMPAGNE DAYS was awkwardly placed between GALLANT HUSSAR and HEXAGON. Shortly after entering the Straight, GRAND GENERAL was steadied away from the heels of OVER THE MOON. Approaching the 300 Metres, GALLANT HUSSAR shifted in and bumped SUGAR ON TOP. Over the final 200 Metres, FATBOY SUGAR shifted out under pressure. Near the 150 Metres, CHAMPAGNE DAYS shifted in abruptly. Passing the 100 Metres, STAR LEGEND shifted out. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of COOL CAT, Apprentice T H So said that although the horse has good form on rain affected tracks, COOL CAT did not travel at any stage of the race and was under pressure throughout to hold its position. A veterinary inspection of COOL CAT after the race did not show any significant findings. FLASHING GUY, FATBOY SUGAR and CHAMPAGNE DAYS were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that GALLANT HUSSAR had lost its right front plate.
