Just prior to the start being effected, DILIGENT III became fractious and lunged forward and as the start was effected was slow to begin. Soon after the start, DILIGENT III was then steadied when crowded for room between DR SUPER and PEPPERMINT, both of which shifted ground. CRAIG’S PRIDE and IRON HAWK were slow to begin. Approaching the 900 Metres, TWIN TURBO commenced to over-race and shifted out off the heels of BENEFACTOR. Rounding the Home Turn, FORTUNE BRAVO shifted out and made contact with ENJOY THE FUN. On the Home Turn, DILIGENT III was momentarily eased when racing in restricted room between CELESTIAL WORLD and CRAIG’S PRIDE which was laying out. Approaching the 200 Metres, DILIGENT III was steadied when momentarily held up for clear running between BIG WINNER AGAIN and LIFE OF BEAUTY, both of which shifted slightly when giving ground. Throughout the race, LIFE OF BEAUTY travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. On pulling up, DILIGENT III dislodged its rider, B Prebble who sustained a harmless fall. DILIGENT III broke through the inside running rail when returning towards the mounting yard. The Veterinary Officer said DILIGENT III had sustained lacerations to the left front leg and left hind leg. Before being allowed to race again, DILIGENT III will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that CELESTIAL WORLD had bled from both nostrils and that ENJOY THE FUN had lost its right front plate. Following the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on SPECTACULAR AWARD and BIG WINNER AGAIN at the request of Trainers K L Man and A T Millard respectively. The Veterinary Surgeon reported that these examinations showed a substantial amount of blood in both horses’ tracheas. Before being allowed to race again, SPECTACULAR AWARD and BIG WINNER AGAIN will both be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of LIFE OF BEAUTY and FORTUNE BRAVO after the race did not show any significant findings. FORTUNE BRAVO, TWIN TURBO and PEPPERMINT were sent for sampling.
