Shortly after the start, BRILLIANT CHARIOT was crowded for room between INTELLECTUALSTRIDE which began awkwardly and shifted out and TRAVEL GUIDE which was taken in by HONG KONG FAT which in turn was taken in by SUPER BRAND. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, SUPER BRAND was steadied away from the heels of FORTUNE BRAVO (O Doleuze) which shifted in when not quite clear. O Doleuze was reprimanded and advised to ensure that he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground in future. Also passing the winning post on the first occasion, BRILLIANT CHARIOT was steadied away from the heels of REAL DRAGON which shifted in. Near the 1300 Metres, SUPER BRAND momentarily raced tight between REAL DRAGON and SUNNY MORE which shifted in momentarily. After the 1200 Metres, CHARMGOLD was left racing wide and without cover and near the 1000 Metres was allowed to stride forward into a more forward position closer to the rail. Near the 700 Metres, HONG KONG FAT was left racing wide and without cover. After the 600 Metres, MAGNANIMOUS was checked away from the heels of BRILLIANT CHARIOT. After the 500 Metres, INTELLECTUALSTRIDE and DRAGON PINS raced tight as INTELLECTUALSTRIDE shifted out from behind SUPER BRAND. Then rounding the Home Turn and in the early part of the Straight, INTELLECTUALSTRIDE was badly held up for clear running behind HONG KONG FAT. Near the 250 Metres, TRAVEL GUIDE was checked when disappointed for running between INTELLECTUALSTRIDE which continued to be awkwardly placed close to the heels of HONG KONG FAT and SUNNY MORE which shifted out slightly when giving ground. Near the 150 Metres, INTELLECTUALSTRIDE was struck across the head by the whip of T Clark (HONG KONG FAT). When struck by the whip, INTELLECTUALSTRIDE (W C Marwing) reacted adversely and became badly unbalanced, resulting in its rider, W C Marwing, becoming unbalanced in the saddle. When INTELLECTUALSTRIDE reacted adversely in this incident, the head of INTELLECTUALSTRIDE made contact with the right arm of T Clark, causing that rider to momentarily stop riding his horse. W C Marwing stated that having regard to the manner in which INTELLECTUALSTRIDE reacted to this incident, he eased the horse down over the concluding stages. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that MAGNANIMOUS had lost its left front plate. A veterinary inspection of INTELLECTUALSTRIDE, TRAVEL GUIDE and HONG KONG FAT after the race did not show any significant findings. FORTUNE BRAVO, REAL DRAGON and MAGNANIMOUS were sent for sampling.
