TOWERING STORM was slow to begin. At the 800 Metres, SUPREME FLIGHT was taken into a three wide position without cover by LOMBARDI which shifted out away from the heels of BEAUTY JOURNEY. Passing the 600 Metres, JUN GONG was awkwardly placed close to the heels of MIGHTY K. Rounding the Home Turn, JUN GONG and AMBER DRAGON bumped as a result of JUN GONG being shifted out to obtain clear running. Passing the 400 Metres, SMILING WATCH was shifted to the inside of BEAUTY JOURNEY to obtain clear running. MIGHTY K was held up for clear running until after the 300 Metres. After being disappointed for running between MIGHTY K and AMBER DRAGON approaching the 50 Metres, TOWERING STORM was checked away from the heels of AMBER DRAGON close to the finishing line. Because of this, TOWERING STORM was not able to be fully tested over the concluding stages. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of BEAUTY JOURNEY, M Chadwick stated that he was able to obtain a good position behind the leader and BEAUTY JOURNEY travelled well throughout the early and middle stages. He said after being momentarily held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight, BEAUTY JOURNEY was disappointing in that when clear running did eventuate, the horse did not quicken and then over the final 200 Metres weakened out of the race noticeably. He added that when BEAUTY JOURNEY was successful last season, the track on that occasion was slightly rain affected and it may be that BEAUTY JOURNEY appreciates some give in the ground. A veterinary inspection of BEAUTY JOURNEY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. PLENTIFUL, JUN GONG and KING’S PACT were sent for sampling.
