LADY FIRST, which began only fairly, was checked shortly after the start when crowded for room between BACK IN BLACK which shifted out and MASTER VIKING which was taken in by PRIMERO which in turn was taken in by CALIFORNIA FORTUNE which got its head on the side and hung in badly despite the efforts of its rider. In this incident, both PRIMERO and MASTER VIKING were also hampered. CALIFORNIA FORTUNE, which was having its first race start in Hong Kong today, then continued to hang in in the early stages and proved difficult to ride. From wide barriers, CALCULATION, TURF SPRINT and ALL MY GAIN were all shifted across behind runners in the early stages. After the 1000 Metres, YOUNG LEGEND raced greenly and passing the 800 Metres was awkwardly placed close to the heels of IRON BOY when travelling keenly. Making the turn after the 900 Metres, CALCULATION got its head up and shifted out when being checked away from the heels of WINSTON’S LAD. Also making the turn after the 900 Metres, TURF SPRINT commenced to travel keenly and got its head up when racing close to the heels of PRIMERO. Approaching the 200 Metres, CALCULATION lay in and was awkwardly placed outside the heels of PRIMERO. After this, CALCULATION continued to lay in under pressure and proved difficult to ride. Throughout the race, BORNTOACHIEVE travelled wide and without cover. WINSTON’S LAD and SUPER HOPPY were sent for sampling.
