As the start was effected, SPEEDY MISSILE lifted its front feet off the ground and consequently was slow to begin. MELBOURNE HALL began awkwardly, EVER STRONG shifted in at the start and bumped SHOUSON. DESTINE JEWELLERY was crowded for room on jumping between GALAXY EMPEROR and SUPER WINNER which shifted in. B Shinn (SUPER LUCKY) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 1050 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in, resulting in MELBOURNE HALL being unnecessarily crowded for room and taken in onto SPEEDY MISSILE and for MELBOURNE HALL to lose the running to which it was rightfully entitled. B Shinn was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 5 February 2020 and to expire on Sunday, 9 February 2020 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). Passing the 900 Metres, SPEEDY MISSILE raced tight inside SUPER LUCKY which got its head on the side and lay in away from DESTINE JEWELLERY. After shifting in to race behind FORTUNE HAPPINESS after the 700 Metres, SUPER WINNER commenced to travel keenly and shifted out away from the heels of that horse. SUPER WINNER continued to travel keenly and was then awkwardly placed behind FORTUNE HAPPINESS approaching and passing the 500 Metres. After the 700 Metres, SUPER LUCKY commenced to travel keenly and got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of GALAXY EMPEROR. Passing the 700 Metres, SPEEDY MISSILE over-raced and was awkwardly placed behind FAIRY TWINS. In the early part of the Straight, SUPER LUCKY got its head on the side and lay in. Near the 250 Metres, SUPER WINNER shifted in and brushed FORTUNE HAPPINESS. Passing the 250 Metres, MELBOURNE HALL was shifted to the inside of EVER STRONG to obtain clear running. MELBOURNE HALL was then shifted out away from the heels of GALAXY EMPEROR passing the 150 Metres to continue improving. After shifting to the outside of GALAXY EMPEROR, MELBOURNE HALL then got its head on the side and lay in for the remainder of the race. Passing the 150 Metres, SUPER LUCKY was awkwardly placed behind U W BROTHER when being shifted to the outside of that horse to obtain clear running. Close to the finishing line, DESTINE JEWELLERY and BABY STORM brushed. Also close to the finishing line, U W BROTHER was steadied away from the heels of SUPER LUCKY (B Shinn) which shifted in. B Shinn was severely reprimanded and advised to ensure that he makes a greater effort to prevent his mounts from shifting ground than he did on this occasion. A veterinary inspection of SPEEDY MISSILE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. SHOUSON and SUPER LUCKY were sent for sampling.
